Call him the Baz Luhrmann of fashion. Manish Arora transformed Twenties flapper girls into candy ravers in his spring collection, which was inspired by Josephine Baker.

Arora sent out an array of drop-waisted dresses in jersey and terry cloth, both pastel and neon, all amped up with bold graphics including sequined lipsticks, beaded geometrics and a black-and-white checkerboard print that channeled Op Art pioneer Victor Vasarely.

A yellow sweatshirt with multicolor embroidery was paired with a jangling fringed skirt made from fluorescent beads. A number of looks were dressed down with sleeveless hoodies and lightweight parkas featuring psychedelic prints of perfume bottles, staircases and ballrooms.

Accessories such as printed backpacks, Day-Glo beaded bracelets and earrings dangling small bananas accentuated the club-kid vibe. The kaleidoscopic display was as noisy and upbeat as the soundtrack blasting M.I.A. songs.
