oooh gorgeous!! as always....but i love this sheer frock coat with the frilled collar.

thanks runner!

His work is always so tenderly provocative. That coat is gorgeous, esp. the frilly details. The scarf (?) in post 1 is lovely, too. I want to wear all the knits, rly.

Thanks Runner!

OMG---i love when i find little buried treasure threads like this!!!...

that sweater with the pin is so yummy...

oh my...it's simply stunning. :crush: Even more so in person, from the few pieces I saw at IF today. (If anyone happens to go :innocent:, they are buried in the back with the MMM stuff....labels are handwritten, so it's easy to recognize.)

I have to say, his garments have the most amazingly precious quality. I own just two things, but the details are eternally exquisite....true treasures.

You can almost sense the hands that made them, and the mind that dreamed them up...it's the closest thing to haute couture that I have ever encountered.

i only wish i were in NY to visit IF right now....you make such visits sound so blissful,laika....

it's strange to me that for as long as i've known of him and loved his work, that i have yet to have the pleasure of seeing anything up close. thankfully, the process of his creations are still etched into my soul so you aren't far from that assesment...'feeling almost like the hands that have made them and mind dreaming them'...his work is incredibly thoughtful.

I love the material.

Great stuff, thanks for posting :D

Yes, it's beautiful, but it all looks so fragile, as if it'd rip with the lightest tug.

^ From what I've read and heard, the garments/fabric are of the utmost quality and artistry.

So yes, seeing this work IRL is definitely on my ever expanding to-do list. :bounce:

i don't know laika...
i actually usually like the pics of le bihan better than the real thing...

probably because i never see my fave pieces being carried in the stores...
:ermm:...

i have never even been slightly tempted by anything i have seen at IF...

i have seen a couple of things that other poeple have that i like- for them...
but nothing that i have enjoyed as much as the safety pin swtr in this thread for example...

it's why it's always an afterthought for me to look at his stuff....
i wish i shared your enthusiasm about it...

i was even lucky enough to go to a showroom sample sale in london some seasons ago where i got to see ALL the samples from that particular collection...
and i couldn't find anything to purchase...and i really wanted to find something...
very disappointing...:(

so i am happy that this thread is not the typical for me...
:D

Well, I think IF buys for an older customer, so a lot of the pieces there, while wonderful to look at, are not things I would wear myself--like the sheer frilled coat, for example.

I think you just haven't found the right piece yet, like you're saying. I didn't really pay attention to him (as a buyer) until I got my tartan skirt...which is just so good--like something Marni would do, but more conceptually sophisticated. Like Scott said, he is an incredibly thoughtful designer, and I like *seeing* that thought translated into the details of his garments.

Anyway, I was speaking less as a consumer and more as an appreciator. :p
*The sweater is fantastic, but I didn't see it at IF. :(

your skirt is extra special laika...that was a really good find..
it is burned in my mind..

i  it so much...

:p

*of COURSE they don't have the piece i like at IF...
that's what i am talking about....:ermm:..

is if the only place that carries marc's work in ny? i would have thought atelier might with their aesthetics but nope...

I have never seen his men's stuff for sale anywhere, actually.

I can't quite see it at A though--their customers are extremely....errrm....brand loyal, shall we say. :p I'm not sure MLB would fit the look.
