It's look like MC, Elle and VF have the same type of reader. And VP and their own. None of these seem to cater women of colors. Does France have magazine that cater to WOC like Essence or they have zero exposure from print media?
Of course there are Magazines like Gazelle, Brune or Amina but it would be totally unfair to compare them to American magazines.
First of all, there’s no « Black » or « Brown » or « POC » community in France from the US POV. Those magazines cover issues from a very panafrican POV and that’s why I think having more French black people in mainstream magazines will kind of bridge a gap.
A French girl or boy born in France, despite his origins has a more natural attraction to publications like ELLE, Vogue and Numero. The same for Arabs.
Vogue Arabia is still more niche to an Algerian or Moroccan woman in France than VP for example.
But in France mainstream success does not mean exposure in magazines. Somebody might want to push Aya Nakamura much like Riccardo did with Shay but there’s still a need from some sort of coherence for the readers.
There are a lot of black celebrities who are exposed and celebrated but I still feel like a lot are still expecting to be embraced by the fashion community when someone like Christine and The Queen kinda forced herself into it.
Lous and The Yakuza is doing amazing things and it’s quite historical to have her as a Vuitton ambassador. But her music is kinda niche. She does not have a mainstream success à la Aya and so, it’s not noticed in the same magnitude.
