I never really cared for Martha Stewart, but I think she got completely shafted by this whole deal. Where the hell are all those Enron guys who screwed thousands of people out of their retirement savings?
I still feel strongly that Martha Stewart was made an example of on account of being an "uppity woman" who stepped too far out of place; who showed too much business acumen, achieved too much power, and enjoyed too much prominence. It just seems like the old-boy money network was just sniffing for that one dead rat on her property they could bark at.
So, I was never into her whole "housework as a gracious hobby" schtik, but I think if she'd been a man, or if she'd been somewhat less famous and successful, nobody would have given half a sh*t if she'd taken part in insider trading activities or not.
Look at Jeb Bush and the S&L scandal of the 1980s. He was amongst the fatcats who cherry-picked the failing Savings & Loan infrastructure as it collapsed upon itself. That joker thinks he might run for president next time around.
