This reminds me of those Resort photo thumbnails you see on the now-defunct style.com
ah the good days.
This cover is tragic.
Wish those pictures would've had more life to them.
Styling nonexistent. Check
Make-up nonexistent. Check
Hair to the strict minimum. Check
Low-level photography. Check
Checklist completed to go straight to the bin. Thank you MAS!
Anyone knows a person who ever bought an issue of this magazine?
I still think fondly of the first issue, but only because it had that spectacular Steven Meisel editorial...
Otherwise a waste of money...
The biggest shock for me is to have a MAStermind cover not being for Vuitton or Paco Rabanne...
I'm more interested in the non-fashion content tbh.
Money laundry. There’s no excuse to waste money and resources for this snoozefest.
Honestly I can’t imagine the snobbiest people of the fashion scene getting excited about Mastermind after the first three or four issues...
^ honestly the first issue was promising. I remember the conversations I had with photographers, MUA, stylists, etc. The quality of the paper was great, nice articles and McKenna was involved alongside Meisel, Sadli...
But then, it became this lil allowance for MAS with Vuitton and Rabanne as advertisers. She started to care less and less about it with most of her staff doing the job.
At the same time, we forgot that MAS is in her 60s and have worked for several decades. She just wants to be a bit lazy. According to her, Mastermind is not a fashion magazine but a cultural one...
Just taking a quick peek to see if she ditched that awful cover layout, and the answer is no, so I'm out.
This magazine has never been on my radar. It's more proof that just because you're a great stylist doesn't mean you know how to put a magazine together.
The nerve to call your magazine mastermind and produce sh*t like this.
I guessed Natalia on the cover and her family in the ed to promo Lucas new fashion brand. Get those cheques MAS.
Well at least MAS and Carine cannot shade each other since both of their magazines are equally terrible.
Has it ever been posted here? Don't think I've ever seen his work for this magazine, but I'd really love to.
No it has not, to be honest it reads very close the story he did for Vogue Italia September 2015 "Scrap book Editorial" but it's bunch of archive photos.
I remember seeing it for sale in Paris in one of those stores who sell everything, from clothes to accessories to magazines. the price was €40 for a very solid and quite thick edition.
it was actually visually appealing and advertising wise it had the less usual ad campaign images inside, which made me very tempted to buy for the single reason only that it had that S/S 17 Chanel campaign with Arizona Muse and the shot is just her face and black camellias on her head... stunning image.
but I guess it’s a non-event. the covers have been always mediocre and random choices (Claire Danes’s probably the best one and this is not saying a lot)... like this one with Natalia... I mean is so hipster and try hard that it’s a bit of a failure for me and the whole family inside... bye.
maybe the content is good, can’t really recall.
This magazine has been the biggest disappointment ever. I feel like MAS still has the potential to produce genius work but she doesn't give AF anymore, or at least her ventures/projects are so pretentious that they only lend themselves to this kind of tomfoolery!
I’ve never purchased an issue of this magazine...one of the most beautiful women in the world and this is the result? The twilight zone...the whole world is now a twilight zone.
I have all the 8 issues.
At the beginning I was really interested in seeing what MAS would offer because I admired her as a stylist. But the actual fashion content in this magazine is not as much as I thought it would be. And with time, it seems she's gone auto-pilot mode for her styling more and more. Why I continue buying this magazine is because I find the other written content interesting. Every issue I find something new to learn from those topics (labeled in chapters like books). And visually it's a good-looking collectable item to look at. But I agree, the price is too high...
a disaster cover in Natalia's whole fashion career. period.
