straight from mastermind JAPAN official press info:

mastermind JAPAN - an eclectic mix of sport, street and elegance distinguished by cutting-edge luxury fabrics developed in Japan.
For men of style and taste who want the best, this casual collection is packed with fun, urban, contemporary items

In feudal Japan there existed many intricate techniques for making fabric
The construction of high quality fabric was also inextricably linked to the Japanese perception of enlightenment and the pursuit of life’s natural beauty.
However, over time these cultural aspects began to fade.

mastermind JAPAN seeks to rediscover this culture and apply it to contemporary fashion design. Specifically, the brand makes ues of Japanese craftsmanship;
from the intricate weaving and embroidery techniques of kimono to ancient braiding techniques used in the construction of armor.

mastermind JAPAN also places great importance on the sense of flow inherent in the Japanese aesthetic.
Taking its cues from the Japanese concept of 'wa' it draws on the beauty inherent in nature. Homma references contrasts found within nature - the way spectacular power and destruction is interwoven with tranquility, beauty and birth.
Homma attaches a special significance to the symbol of the skull.

"To me the skull symbolizes a fight until death to fulfill one’s destiny! " he says.
Skulls are a poignant motif in Buddhism and other religions where it is representative of the cyclical pattern of existence and the fact that beauty can be found in both life and death. "The skull stands for impartiality," adds Homma. "Because all living things must eventually die."
