A nice X-mas present for those wondering about Ames....including myself!

Very, very good collection! Very evolved and very grown up....yet still quite playful at the same time. still playing on geometry.

I really adore the bolero and the red dress.

and myself!. :woot:

just a few days ago i was browsing his website hoping for S/S 07 info.
it looks pretty good..I'm sort of missing the conventionally feminine air of his clothes, it's only 4 looks so i guess there's still more to see, it still looks amazing...it reminds me a little of ..Jens Laugesen. :ninja:

Why have I not heard of this designer before? Everything in this collection is amazing: The silhouettes, cuts, patterns, everything! My only problem is with the shoes - their futuristic design seems to have grabbed too much inspiration from Balenciaga's Fall 2006 boots.

mullet, and you know what...this is a guy who was once an assitant to Jurgi Persoons. I suppose,it explains your equation to Laugesen(as the elements in both he and Jurgi's work are comparable in a way) but also the naive approach of the previous collections.

but i am adoring this more evolved approach. i think it showcases a certain variety of his talents. but this new silhouette he's doing is fab....alot more dramatic than before and more romantic in a way that isn't so sugary. I mean, that air of sweetness is still there but not as obvious. that red dress,i can definitely imagine was inspired by some sort of child's dress with puff sleeves. it's just not blatant.

seanutbutter, there have been a couple mentions of him in American publications like Elle and Nylon but overall he's still very much a rising talent....

Matthew, though, even being based in NY,has been mostly involved Paris' fashion scene. He's presented there since he started but i did read he was planning to do a proper NY show this upcoming season. He was also a participant at Hyeres Festival a couple years ago. And as far as his craftsmanship,as I mentioned he was an assitant to Belgian designer Jurgi Persoons for a couple years and Jurgi was immensely talented in all of those respects. And it was the first thing I noticed about Matthew.

It reminds me of Tisci at Givenchy a little. Not just this collection, but even 2005. It's just not cut as strict. I like all his work. His past work is really cute-sy though :)

Why haven't I heard of this guy before? his stuff is great!

I am very happy that Diane posted this on her website, it was the first time for me to have seen his work and it instantly caught my eye... it's very mature looking and having browsed through his previous collections, I really like his graphic use of colour and simple geometric shapes. it's very exciting to see the collaged pinstripes that he did a couple seasons ago, having tried something similar most recently!

the best thing about ames, however, is that he is very good at getting the proportions right, and his long lean skirt for me is a very welcome alternative to everything that ends somewhere around the knee in terms of skirts. bravo!
