Matthieu Blazy - Designer, Creative Director of Chanel

LOL as if the pressure on Matthieu wasn't laughable enough. Poor guy is gonna have to snort so much cocaine just to pump out one collection, only for critics and online gays to bash it and declare him a fashion flop.
The fashion gays and the press are gonna love CHANEL Mat no matter what cause they are greatly biased by his Bottega successful tenure from a critics perspective.
Most fashion gays love that fake intellectualism wit covered by pretentiousness typical of the Raf gang (Raf, Pieter, Mat).
Press can't go hard on him otherwise Bruno will ask Leena to block the $$$ ad checks on the magazines / online publications.
Also, remember that Virginie cheapened the brand so much with logos everywhere and basic designs that even Philipp Plein and his team would be able to come up with something better than this...and remember this look was from a HAUTE COUTURE show!

If the clothes and quality are rubbish, the casting won't make the slightest difference. There's no guarantee he's going to be any better than Virginie. The pressure on him is comical.
I disagree and I can provide Versace SS08 as the perfect example of a terrible collection powered up by a stellar casting.
Collection looked super cheap and tacky however the casting made it go viral, it's the most discussed Versace show ever after the Spring 1995...and that was Gianni's.
A great casting can definitely elevate a weak collection and conceal the macroscopic fit / design / quality issues.

I'm not talking about viral moments and 'vibez'. When I say "better" I mean ACTUALLY better. If there's one house whose reputation still hinges on truly high quality and substantial collections it's Chanel (and probably Hermes). A stellar casting and some theatrics will make just about any old crap viral. But the loyal Chanel clientele will not stand for garbage quality.

Also, LOL @ the random Versace SS08 reference. Tell me you love Eurotrash without telling me you love Eurotrash.

Honestly, I'm more interested about the client's reaction. If they like it, he's set.

I remember people here saying the haute couture ladies were not feeling Viard's clothes...

Yeah, many couture clients were not thrilled about Viard's designs, this is what one of the male chinese couture clients posted on ig after she presented her couture collection:

Lol that got me revisiting some of her collections and good god that ss 2024 couture show is the worst thing i've seen. She had a lot of courage to present that garbage in a Chanel runway.

i love courageous woman ....against all odds succeeding... :-) CC, MP, RK, CC, VV, even MGC, JL, PH etc

a male Chinese couture client is expressing discontent at VV's bridal offering?? where even to start...

It’s totally possible to not like Blazy’s work for what it is but i hope (based on some comments im already reading) that some members are not going to do the same revisionism they have been doing with Frida.

Virginie is not a good designer anyway. There are plenty of talented women designers and she isn’t one of them.

So going from that, it will be very difficult for Blazy to do worse than that.

I loved the SS 2008 collection. I think it was a fresh, relaxed interpretation of Versace and maybe a new vision of what a Versace woman could be from Donatella. A lot of silk jersey indeed.

However, SS2005 is a collection I find terrible but that people (mostly men) seems to love because of the cast.

In reality, a lot of people commenting about fashion don’t care about the clothes. When you look at the comments on videos, it’s mostly models talks.

And I think that in general, people who talks about fashion don’t look at it from a broader POV. They don’t have or know people in their direct environment wearing the clothes or experiencing the lifestyle, so sometimes, they don’t get it. And it seems like context also is missing.

I agree that a great casting can elevate terrible clothes but sometimes, things are just impossible to save.

Honestly, I'm more interested about the client's reaction. If they like it, he's set.

I would say this thing about Couture: it has it politics.
A lot of women can hate her clothes but still love Chanel. At the least, they will order a suit, modify it and be happy about it. Then, they can want a reproduction or simply go for a simple suit. A friend of mine wanted her civil ceremony tailleur made by Chanel and it was
just a simple tailleur.
A lot of things can be true at the same time.

Because Couture is a bit of a « club », I know that there are clients who, just because they wants to still be invited at events and be seen in their social circles, just buys stuff every season. It can be archives, accessories or a heavily modified piece from the show.

But I would say that the biggest strength of Chanel HC is it daywear/cocktail pieces. A Chanel suit or dress in tweed always work. Dior HC is a lot more eveningwear/centric.

Little prairie girl going to marry her farmer lover, make it couture but also relatable with Black loafers and thick white gym sponge like socks...a nightmare

^^
Tbh, that dress is rather cute and inoffensive.
Remove the stockings, the socks and the shoes with a simple pair of sky high Roger Vivier pointy pumps and it’s perfect!
A longer version could also work…

Underwhelming for a wedding dress and for Chanel prices, that is sure!

I agree with you, the styling really brings the decent dress down. Those loafers paired with socks were diabolical. Also agree on the lenght, had the dress been longer it would have looked like those super chic Valentino chemisier gowns from Fall 2005 show.
That couture show was my biggest disappointment from Virginie cause the inspiration behind the collection was so strong and characteristics (stained glass effects, virginal White with a sprinkle of pop), yet she managed to make the looks very bland and washed out. The show venue with the White bed sheets hanging on wires Did Not help at all...CHANEL goes to the dry cleaner. Yuck.
I am scared now thinking on how avant garde and "intellectual" Mat's brides will look
