Matthieu Blazy - Designer, Creative Director of Chanel

“I won’t name names, but some people have shown they can move from brand to brand and their style remains fairly identical, and the brand has to adapt,” he said.
It´s funny...while trying to avoid the "Slimanization" of Chanel, they ended with the "Botteganization" of Chanel instead...go figure! :brows:

I don’t understand the relation between what A$AP is wearing to what Margaret is wearing. She looks like she’s wearing vintage Karl Lagerfeld x Chanel circa the early 2000s and he looks like he’s a band member of an Afro-American jazz-funk ensemble from the 1980s.

Add Michel Gondry into that mix and you’ve lost me completely. It’s totally chaotic in terms of a concept.

They need to sharpen up the image of the brand in terms of image because at the moment there are too many aesthetic universes operating at the same time, and none of them are coherent.

The benefit of Bottega was the ability to have a laser sharp focus in terms of imagery. At Chanel though, Matthieu’s vision is confused and gets completely lost…

How hypocritical of Bruno and the team. I quote "We strictly adhere to the consistency of brand narrative in our culture, and we remain highly focused on women's fashion. Chanel will not venture into furniture, menswear, children's wear, or other product categories. We stay focused. I believe, in today's world, maintaining focus is the brand's most important commitment."

Yet in 2025, making A$AP an ambassador, who is basically a side B to Pharrell. Plus all the male celebs they've been inviting to the shows. Clearly they want a piece of that pie, well get in the kitchen Bruno! I can't wait for the show tonight and the extra 7 days of praise of show and the analysis of how great MB is.

that's why we say here on the treads : What Bruno says is not what Bruno does!!!!!

Meanwhile, Twitter is crashing out over the portrayal of interracial relationships. They're really honouring Coco by calling the ad "anti-white genocidal propaganda from the Jews". I'd post some of the replies here for us to laugh at, but I don't want to get banned.
too late lol

The new statistics project that the usa nation will become “minority white” in 2045. During that year, whites will comprise 49.7 percent of the population in contrast to 24.6 percent for Hispanics, 13.1 percent for blacks, 7.9 percent for Asians, and 3.8 percent for multiracial populations .

The multiracial population grew from 2.9% in 2010 (9 million people) to 10.2% in 2020. attributed to a societal shift where more individuals are choosing to self-identify as multiracial.

These red carpet looks are proving not just how ugly a lot of the looks were from the runway but also how un- Chanel like they are, none of these looks bar Kristen’s look resembles anything like Chanel! Everyone was so distracted by the whole fanfare of his debut show but now we get to see how ill fitting, garish and just how much of an eyesore a lot of them are. Maybe they could’ve chosen better looks from the collection, there were a few that they could’ve led with apart from these Proenza rejects!!

A$AP

CHECK THE TAG

So Sorry I’m on one today… Had to add! So he’s been appointed the ambassador recently so what does this look tell us about him, the brand, the connection so on and so on? He’s wearing a relatively ok blazer, mismatched pants I believe, and hideous shoes?! What are we meant to do with this?! They said they didn’t want to do a dedicated men’s collection but will have male ambassadors wearing non descript “Chanel” it doesn’t look like MB had anything to do with this, and we know his menswear can be good based on his time at BV, so there is a disconnect here!! They could definitely do more with this so called “ambassador!”

Men have been buying Chanel a lot for a bit more than a decade now…Even though they never really had a menswear line.
The few looks Karl did were only available at Cambon or at best NYC and their Tokyo store. But they never either did have a large distribution or even large sizing.

Overtime they did small things like doing sneakers in larger size, pushing some of their bags are unisex (when in the past they used the Sport line to target men in accessories).

Pharrell and GDragon became ambassadors, proving that men could wear Chanel without the brand having to dedicate an entire line. Sébastien Tellier became also a friend of the house and wore Chanel. He taller and bigger than the other male ambassadors. I don’t know if he got things custom made though.

Virginie pushed it even more. She dressed Ladj Li, a French rapper called SCH, they signed Kendrick Lamar. All those male celebrities attached to Chanel don’t wear a quote on quote menswear line at Chanel but are there to prove the unisex nature of the styles.

Clearly there’s an appetite for Chanel from men.

Pharrell wore full on suits custom made by Chanel. I remember him and his wife wearing the same look from the Paris-Dallas collection on a Redcarpet.
I even know a man who happens to be a musician who bought the coat he modeled from the Paris-Cosmopolite collection.

They don’t really need to do more. They don’t have to do more than they have done in the past. Maybe just propose a wider sizing.

There’s also a bit of snobbism I think for men who can afford Chanel.

Thanks for the background on this… Before ASAP I’ve always liked the way they have put the menswear out there and the Ambassadors were great from Pharrell to Kendrick.. It worked!! .. But the key that’s missing here is it was always distinctive and obviously Chanel even if on a man without a dedicated collection behind them.

I know it may be too soon as MB has just started so may be too early to judge but what I’ve seen so far looks like he found a few pieces from a thrift store and put them together. It lacks direction and doesn’t distinguish it as being Chanel albeit men’s.

I have no issues with them not doing a dedicated mens collection. But I was happy with how the mens was represented pre MB!! I guess what I mean to say is I miss the old Chanel and hate what MB is delivering as the new Chanel!!
