The list was updated and the only thing that changed is that Miranda Kerr moved up to number 6. Who was removed then?

I don't think anyone was removed

Joan Smalls now shares Rank #8 with Constance

When did Karlie get moved to #4, I know it was not real recent, but I don't think that she was #4 four or five months ago, right? MCB could be considered as removed, since she moved to the icons list not too long ago.

Joan moved to #8 without the EL campaign getting published (yet), without ANY major covers, ANY fragrance ad, and no only girl ad for a big brand this season? (OK so she has Givenchy and Gucci pre fall but still.) Ridiculousssss (I can't stress it enough).. Jac is stuck at 10 and she had Chanel beauty 2 seasons in a row plus a million ads for other top brands.

I guess if Joan FINALLY gets a Vogue cover she will be moved to 3 or 4.

And Miranda at 6..    HA! Funny.

IMO she deserves to be on the top 10 because of her momentum and visibility as the top dark-skinned model. She probably has far less opportunities than Jac, a 16 year-old European but still she get advertisements, editorials and open/closes big shows

Plus she does have ONE decent cover (i-D) and she signed the contract for EL so what does it matter if it's not published yet??

I don't agree with you. Even with her best season she has yet to achieve the amount of shows walked in a season walked by Jourdan Dunn who also has 3 i-D covers, a Vogue Italia cover, an American Vogue cover, 2 British Vogue covers, an upcoming Burberry campaign, a ck campaign, a YSL fragrance campaign that is still running, consistent showings in Vogue, i-D, Vogue Italia and Vogue UK which is so much more than I can say for Joan. She is enjoying her moment right now but that doesn't make her the top "dark-skinned" model. I'm not discounting her achievements but I just feel it's far too soon to place her that high.

I think Joan's career is in a different place than Jourdan's. Estee Lauder will make her a star, she will be the only face in the ad, Jourdan has never been the "star" of a campaign, she is always sharing the spotlight

PS: i don't think a YSL men's fragrance contract is worth more than Estee Lauder or Gucci

Right, in the same way Arlenis and Hilary Rhoda were made stars? The reason why Daria's and Liya's campaigns were so successful was because the campaigns capitalized on their consistent campaigns and editorial/cover presence (it was the like the capstone of their careers). And a YSL fragrance contract may not be worth more than EL or Gucci but both ck and Burberry are.

Besides, campaign for campaign Arlenis more than matches Joan (David Yurman, Polo Ralph Lauren, Topshop etc) not to talk of editorial presence and this is just based on your premise of Joan being the 'top dark-skinned model'. Not to talk of her being higher than Jac as someone mentioned above.

I really shouldn't be getting riled up over something as trivial as MDC rankings as they have demonstrated over and again that there is no rhyme or logic to their ranking process so this is the last I will say on the matter. :flower:

I was literally just going to say that.

Idk about Joan. She's been hyped up to no end for what, over a year now and I've literally yet to see anything really jaw dropping from her in terms of booking. The best thing up to this point has been that Gucci campaign. Up until this EL contract which isn't always THE star maker as already stated. Granted I don't follow her career that closely but nevertheless, I hear more about Joan than I actually see Joan. Hype is good but it has to translate to some actual results eventually.

i agree that it is still early days for Joan but her career is already pretty well-rounded to me and she is looking like she could be a long-distance runner. That's just *my* rationale though, i have no idea how MDC run their list as Sessilee remains on the top 20

PS: the 'cK' label is not the same as Calvin Klein, i doubt its rewards would rival Estee Lauder

I thought we were talking about the rankings which have nothing to do with monetary rewards (if so covers and eds wouldn't count for much) :flower:

i think that it has a lot to do with monetary rewards along with industry presence, like runway, editorials, covers etc. i'm more surprised by anna j and miranda's rankings tbh :ermm:

I sad it before and I will say it again, the list is not based on incomes or amount of work, there are no 20 points for a Vogue Italia cover, 40 for a beauty contract (where it also depends with whom) and 5 for opening Prada, 7 if you are also closing, and the list is very actual because if they would still take into account what models who are still working achieved in the past we would have Karlie at 40 and not 4.

The list is based on current status you may disagree that Joan should be up where she is as she could easily vanish 2011 but she has established herself for now.

Daphne Groeneveld (up 20 ranks i think?) to #30 with Givenchy SS11 and Vogue Paris Dec. cover B)
