If I can make a comparison to the male list........Sean O'Pry went to number one in the midst of Clement Chabernaud having the most impressive couple of seasons any male model has ever had. I think Sean was just in a tier above him and was next in line so he was going to be the next number one after Baptiste no matter what.

I think the same will happen with the females. Lara and Natasha are going to move to Icons and the next number one will be Freja or Anya, and after that someone from the Abbey, Karlie, Joan, Arizona group will be next.

I think the past #1s were very clearly justified. Lara has the mega CK contract, Raquel had Shiseido & a slew of big campaigns, Daria had Lancome & a slew of campaigns, Liya had Estee & a slew of campaigns, & Gisele was just Gisele.

Do you see what these girls all had in common? They all had huge contracts as well as blue chip campaigns. The only contender that is potentially in the same league is Joan Smalls. Sure, she needs a few more covers, but she is booking campaigns on the level of the former #1s already, and she is just getting started. Karlie & Freja have already peaked. Joan is still on the rise.

It's unfortunate that Freja & Lara peaked at the same time because that could indeed mean Freja won't become #1, if this season will turn out to be a less successful one than the 2 previous ones.
But I disagree completely about Joan having the biggest chances to become the next Number 1. All her big campaigns and covers are multi-girl. And I don't see any "star-power" in her...maybe it's just me, but I don't see her as being very likable and popular. Everyone loves Freja and Lara because they're so cool, they have a special attitude and they stand out from all the other girls. I don't see that in Joan.

Karlie on the other hand has all these qualities. I don't think she has peaked yet, actually. I believe she's still on the rise, especially because she's 18 now and I think doing sexier shoots and working for Victoria's Secret and such will make her become even more visible and well-known. My bet on the next MDC #1 is still on Karlie. Or Arizona, if Lara keeps her spot for another year or so.

I think Sasha, Anja and Natasha have the same problem as Freja, they've been around for too long and unless they grab something similar to Lara with her huge CK Exclusive I don't think there's any chance for them to merit the #1 spot because they're past their peak.

Probably the last months of 2012!!
Now it's too early, only Lara deserves this spot!
Freja will never take the N°1 spot!
She didn't do anything in the past 2/3 months and without Chanel i think her level will go down

even joan doesnt have any big only girl campaign but she has estee lauder contract and that's huge in the modeling world, its way bigger than a regular chanel or dior campaign. any exclusive, long term contract is considered as a grand slam in the industry.

im sure if joan keeps doing well in editorials, covers will follow. just like the case of freja, she didnt get big cover (vogue paris and italia) until last year. well she had a multigirls cover for vogue paris but that was ages ago.

Joan: Sure a Estee Lauder contract is huge. However I do think that the girl at number 1 should have at least some cover for one of the big Vogue magazines.
For example: Lara was made number 1 at febr. 2010.
In 2009 she had 2 VP og covers, Vogue US mg, VI mg and Vogue uk og, a couple big OG campaigns but not a beauty or fragance contract.. That all came after she got the number 1.

But I agree if Joan keeps booking big eds, then covers will follow and perhaps also a OG campaign she could be higher then 4. Don't know number 1, she could be, but I think Karlie is still in the running and Arizona.

What else do you see her doing in 3 years? I genuinely would like to know, because she will run out of favor at Dior, ODLR & Donna Karan eventually. What other campaigns do you see her being in?

Well.. haha wow, relax. She could do more covers, she could have other brands that want her???
I mean in the past she modeled for Alexander McQueen, Chloe, Dolce and Gabanna, Hermes and got multiple frangance adds.
Ck hired Lara also in 2008 and return with to her in 2010.

Same with Joan, what do you see her doing for 3 years??? I could ask that for any model. Who would have thought Karl would hire a other girl for his campaign instead of Freja? I mean Joan repeats Gucci MG every season, so what if Gucci decides not to hire her anymore? Who would Joan have? Sure she did stella m, givencht in the past etc. but Karlie did Hermes in the past. And Karlie is now in the Donna Karan cruise campaign.

I agree with Psyloke: Joan doesn't really has a special attitude, that stand out personallity that makes her different from any other model.

for the bluest of the blue chip campaigns like dior, chanel, and prada, it would be hard to get but then there are so many other brands out there like balenciaga, celine, chloe, lv, etc

i definitely think karlie fits chanel.

people see her at the streets n be OMG she is gorgeous. n still manage to look adgy in HF(campaign,eds,cover)

models like Lara,freja,abbey/sasha look good in print n in HF,but if u see them in any day in the street they are not pretty,in fact ppl might find them ugly/weird looking.

i dont know that is just what i think
classic beauty IMO always beat those looks that might last 3/4 season jsut look at the Icon list most of the models are GORGEOUS! n they are really you typical beauty. n joan has that. n beside Joan CAN DO more than just High Fashion as Freja can NOT! i mean let be real

@Forrest- I'm chill. I just wanted to know what other people thought about Karlie's future. Thanks for answering my question. As far as Joan's future, I see her still at EL. I also don't think she is done with Givenchy & Roberto Cavalli. She fits those brands very well. She walks Missoni, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, Emilio Pucci & Dior every season. They might be interested in her. I hope they both have long careers, I just don't know if Karlie can sustain the level she is currently at.

men im just happy all my faves are doing great!
few yrs ago there was soo much trash talk about Natasha looks. n it was true so i couldnt said anything but stay quiet.
at the begging people were like "joan is just a commercial model" "she wont do anything more the catalogue work" look where she is now? some people even thing she has what it takes to be the next number one!

besides she has that ethereal beauty that attracts men n woman!

Back on topic @ Valladict: it's cool. By posts you can't always tell how it's ment Sure Joan is gorgeous, in a classic way, probably why she got el. however i don't think that is why she should be number 1. I mean, I don't find Raquel a beauty tbh.

I wouldn't neccesarily count out Natasha just yet.. Something tells me she just slowed down a lot to plan her wedding.. Because now that she's on Twitter and her honey moon and all those other things she was doing after her wedding is over she has been posting non-stop for a lot of work.. So maybe she just kind of went on a haitus and decided to be picky and now she's back? Idk.. I might just be doing some wishful thinking..

But I definately put my money on Karlie right now.. She might not have covers for VP or BV but she has definately upped her work move. You can see that she has definately been doing more sexy-style work and she's supposed to be doing the VSFS this year.. And she has an amazing personality and is such a sweet girl.. Plus, she has a lot of support from a lot of designers.. So you can't ever know.. Specially with any girl.. Who knows how long this Arizona/Joan hype will last..

And one picture for a campaign isn't really all that.. I didn't even know she was in the Cavalli campaign until I saw it in a magazine and I'm always on tFs..
