So far, Joan has the best resume as the young colored face in business. Liu Wen? I dont think her appeal could last that long. She did not have too much Vogue coverages except Vogue China. As far as I know, she did a lot Elle-ish, Numero-ish stuffs. Meanwhile, I think she has too narrow campaign space, the biggest names she did were Calvin Klein, Estee and Dolce, and she has fellow faces to join with. Liu Wen will follow Du's steps. The only reasons why brands take few Chinese faces for catwalk and campaign is just because of the booming and yet crazy stupid luxury market in China. And, those faces are replaceable, just like the situation in Japan, luxury brands prefer the Caucasian faces. I am not a racist, let's face it. Joan has done pretty well.

All Joan needs is 2 big Vogue covers to become #1. All Karlie needs is a bigtime contract. Which one do you think is easier to attain?

I vote for Karlie. Her manager seems a bit aggressive to me,

i think if any asian gonna make it big with campaigns and covers, it will be sui he. i strongly believe this girl has potential to make it big.

so watch out for her to make it big.

Aren't you all forgetting about Fei Fei Sun? Although I love Liu much more, Fei Fei's campaign work is very impressive- Louis Vuitton, DKNY Fragrance, H&M, CK One, etc. Out of all the girls in the top 50, Meisel seems to be shooting her the most (VI, W, & US Vogue). The Asian face with the most industry support is her, atm; however, having a big contract like EL is still a big advantage for Liu. Even if she doesn't have the amount of support as Fei Fei does, EL will always give her some relevance. Who knows, maybe Liu will be a late bloomer like Karmen Pedaru was. I also thinks its too early to predict whether Sui He will become a hit or not, but she has had a pretty successful year.

Side Note- I would like to believe that the industry isn't just using Asian faces because of the booming market in China, but it the fast paced growth in the Chinese market does seem to correlate with the rise of Asian faces.

What do you guys think about Constance? Everybody keeps saying she should be in the top 5, but I don't agree. I think her career is starting to mirror that of Toni Garrn: only booking commercial brands like Bally & Nine West. Correct me if I'm wrong, but those 2 campaigns aren't blue chip, are they? She gets very little support from the 4 big Vogues. Instead of shooting with the more prestigious US Vogue, she shoots for Harper's Bazaar. I think EL is what has her so high at #6. Do you think her work is turning too commercial?

Well..
Constance did Dolce and Gabanna mg and Sonia Rykiel last season. She also has a Estee Lauder contract and much more covers (including Vogue Germany, russia etc. not the big ones but still) and she got estee lauder fragance. Her only "problem" is that her work in Vogue US, Paris and Italia are from 2010. So I think she should be in the top 10, not sure where her spot should be atm. If she make come back in vogue us, uk, paris or italia and then defo a top 5 spot. Oh and she needs to keep a big campaign.

About the Asian girls, i don't follow them really, so got nothing really say about it. Not discrimation, but i've enough on following every dutch girl and the top 10.


Number 1: mmm, Joan needs a og campaign and at least two covers otherwise Karlie will be number 1. Sure Joan got Estee Lauder but like Constance who is #6 no OG campaign or big cover. At least Constance got also a frangance deal and lots of covers.
Karlie only need a big contract deal, that could also be with Dior, like Lara with CK. I mean Lara also hasn't a contract with Lancome, Estee Lauder or L'oreal Paris.

^I think we are looking at this Karlie/Joan thing from two different angles (which is not a bad thing). I am looking at what WILL happen, you are looking at what HAS happened. According to what HAS happened, Karlie should be #1. She has had multiple Dior, ODLR & Donna Karan campaigns. According to what WILL happen, Joan seems to be the safer bet. She has built up a bigger clientele in just 4 seasons than Karlie has in the past 8 or 9 seasons. I probably shouldn't say what WILL happen, since I don't know what the future holds. I just think that Joan now being in the elite group of muses for Karl Lagerfeld changes everything.

I dont like Karlie and i dont like Joan....i hope its Freja :lol
But i didnt like Lara before and now i love her but i dont know...i think the only reason Lara is still n1 is because they didnt decide who will be number one it will be hard...but i would be much more happy if it was Joan cause it would be such a big thing having a black model in n1 otherwise Karlie would just be another white model as n1!!

^^ True. We both look at it from different sides, but as you say that's fine.
I look at this like if Lara should be replaced now, who will be it? And if Karlie holds Dior, ODLR and her fragance then I think Karlie will be #1. Still think Karlie is a safer bet. Cause I do think that she will grab a big one, be a regular in vogue and get a cover.

If not, and Joan will get her covers and campaigns then yes Joan. But at this moment it's so hard to tell! I can't wait when all the campaignnews will be out!


About Lara: i don't think MDC hasn't removed Lara yet cause they don't know who will be it.
First they wait ofcourse after the campaigns are out and they do know more about upcoming work then most of us do.
And more important: atm no one from that list come even close to the work Lara did past seasons (i'm talking about future number #1) like covers (vp, vogue uk), ck contract, tom ford make up, tom ford fragance, dkny fragance, prada contract fragance, versus, also appears often in vogue us, vogue uk and vp.

So I guess when the campaigns are out, we will see if there will be a new number 1.

i think they wont move Lara until someone get the (freja,Natasha,Sasha Moment)

joan is on top,but she has not been on top that long.(same Arizona,saskia)
KK was in top but her work IMO does not match the work she was having 2 yr ago


maybe they put 2 models in #1 like Angela/lidya??

The CK contract came later. MDC took a chance & got it right by putting Lara at #1, not knowing what her future would hold. MDC is gonna have to do the same & choose someone they think will blow up like Lara.

To me, Constance is just like Anja and Toni, just like that, nothing special. They have pretty faces, they can do a lot commercial works, but I can't get anything extra from her...She can def be a money girl, but ICON? She needs more time to define herself, time will talk.

If Lara can hold a Ralph Lauren contract, I am sure MDC will move her to the icon list asap. To me, MDC is like RL-CK addicted.

I do agree about Anja not being icon material, though. I don't think she will leave a big footprint in modelling. I do however think Constance is great, I just don't think her career is going the right way. Her face is undeniably memorable, I wish she would get more bluechip work.

True, but hasn't mdc more inside info then we do?? that time she was made number 1, numeros fragance adds came out, a couple OG campaigns (including LV)??
On the other hand therfor in 2009 Lara did multiple OG campaigns (JPG,CK, Ck cosmetics) and had multiple OG covers (vogue uk, vogue paris, vogue italia us cogue mg (> Freja had none of it and Natasha was only with Lara on the Vogue us).. So I guess they had inside info and also took their chance that she would hold it???????

^The quality of models also counts,imo.Throughout the modeling career of MCB,she has produced a lot of impressive and memorable eds.As for Anja, well not bad,beautiful and sexy...but not memorable.That makes the difference.

haha, you conveniently forget how many campaigns Anja has per season. And often in VI? i counted two issues last 2010. Anja's also guest judged in The Fashion Show, Poland's Next Top Model, has appeared in various television shows... is somewhat of a celebrity in her home country.. all that plus regular Vogue covers AND a staggering load of campaigns per season, long term fragrance contracts... hmmm. if that isn't icon enough for you, half the models on the icons list i'm afraid don't match your unreasonable standards.
