I have not been following this thread closely, has MDC or another source stated that a new No. 1 will be announced soon?

i think the only reason Lara is still n1 is because they didnt decide who will be number one it will be hard...

But see this bugs me, I am all for stability on the list especially at the top ranks, but they lose credibility at some point by what I am perceiving as them having a fixed amount of time for a model to be number one, I don't think that they should change it every three months but to me a year is long enough if there are other models with strong track records waiting in the wings. For example I cannot say anything against the worthiness of Raquel or Lara getting the top spot but for the combined timeframes that Raquel and Lara have been number one, I would have liked to have seen one or two others at the top as well, I don't know which one or two, but some combination of Anja, Freja, Sasha or Natasha should have also reached the top spot. No disrespect to Raquel or Lara, but I just don't see their careers as being that much more stellar than Anja, Freja, Sasha or Natasha's, although I do think that Lara has become somewhat of a cultural figure. I am not saying that all four had to be number one because sometimes crap just happens and the timing isn't right, but I think that at some point keeping a model is the top position for an extended period of time goes from being stable to inert.

I disagree, I think that Anja and Freja have gotten a similar level of work. Lara was hot, and then slowed down and then really slowed down (perhaps by choice) and then got hot again.

^^I can't wait for the campaigns, either. But we have to remember that Lara got most of those campaigns WHILE she was #1. She debuted at #1 in Spring 2010 when she had Louis Vuitton. The CK contract came later. MDC took a chance & got it right by putting Lara at #1, not knowing what her future would hold. MDC is gonna have to do the same & choose someone they think will blow up like Lara.

I agree, although I also agree with Forrest's point that they probably had inside information about the CK contract.

^^relax . I'm not the only one that can't see her as one. Again: i didn't say that a icon must be in every vogue etc!!

I only said that: I just can't think of her like a icon. She doesn't have a standout personallity or beauty for me and I consider that as important to be a icon, (But if MDC thinks different, i'm fine with that. I have no problem with Anja.)

@ Agee: i do agree that Lara had slowed down and then got hot again, but also did Natasha, Anja. Maybe because of personal things? Getting married, engaged, other things?? Or that IMG (in lara and natasha case) didn't want to expose them to much to keep them hot?
About the work: If i look at lara's work list, i think it's more impressive or bigger things then Natasha/Anja/Freja (i mean for example eds in us vogue, covers, longterm fragance/beauty contract etc.).

I agree with that!! Lara, Natasha & Anja are married from not many months ago and probably they have other projects in their life, not only work work and work!! People should understand this point!! Models have also a personal life. .

Anyone can take a break, but just a little number of models can make a successful comeback.

Girl works for VS two years, does a lot of lingery and swimcampaigns, she got a amazing body to kill for, she got so many sexappeal and always looks damn hot in everything she does.

The money girls list needs a revamp if you ask me. I think its become the most forgotten one, because they cannot explain why Daniela de Jesus & Michelle Buswell are still on the list. I also don't think Heidi Klum should be on the list either because she is no longer a model. Sure she models her exercise gear & endorses certain products, but she is now more widely known as a TV host. If all former models that make alot of $$$ were in the running, then Tyra Banks would be #1 on that list. To me, the list should only consist of models who's main career is modelling, not acting, singing or hosting.

I wonder how much the new EL girls make versus the new VS girls? I heard the new VS contracts are significantly smaller than the bigger girls (Ale, Adriana, Doutzen, Miranda). Since EL has less contracted girls, I would bet that Joan, Constance & Liu make more $$$ than Erin, Lily & Chanel. Not to mention that the EL girls also have very high paying campaign jobs on the side. Do you think they should be on the money list?

when it comes to campaigns and editorials, raquel's works are far more superior. her campaigns: ysl, gucci, hermes, chloe, fendi, h&m, louis vuitton, chanel, giorgio armani, etc and the majority of them are only girl campaigns. her editorials are over the big 4 editions of vogue for years and what better is the quality of it. her eds got people talking. she has been in the business for 12 years and still is a regular on the pages of vogue paris and us, this must be an evidence of the quality of her works.

she is one of the best models of all time. she is definitely not on the same league as natasha, anja, freja, and sasha. she is somewhere with daria, natalia, and lara.

If you were to ask me who are the five best all-around models Raquel would be on the list, perhaps at the top of the list, but I stand by my point that I think that their careers are comparable, although I will concede that Raquel's resume is stronger because she has been in the business longer, and also note that her resume has gotten even stronger in recent months (after she moved to the icons) because she is having a moment, but if we said "let's take a model's best three to five consecutive years," I think that they are more comparable. That is one of the mysteries about the MDC list, because if we were going by being in the top tier for an extended period of time then Freja and maybe Natasha and Anja would have gotten the top spot over Lara because they were in the MDC top tier longer than Lara has been. Also, I think that it is sometimes hard to compare because the models don't have apples-to-apples careers. some excelled with Big 4 covers, others excelled with covers in general or editorials, or campaigns in general or blue chip campaigns or runway or ties to tastemakers, etc. Of course there are also people's personal tastes and preferences, I have seen comments like, "she should not be number one because she is so boring (or uses the same facial expression or cannot walk or does not have the right look)" but IMO that is not relevant if the model is getting the right campaign, covers and runway bookings.

Raquel,Isabeli,Daria,Giselle careers are the best in the Modeling world for the last decade IMO.

i really dont think Natalia is at their level,maybe that is just me. :l

^Ditto. Raquel definitely has earned her place in the icons list. Her work this year has been more than stellar both in quantity and quality. I love Natasha and Sasha but Raquel is just in a completely different league of models.

it's the same when people comment here that Anja shouldn't eventually be in the icons list because "she hasn't been memorable enough" or "her personality doesn't stand out", that's so subjective!
she has clearly proved her longevity, i mean she's still ranked no.3 after all these years of career.. and i've never seen somebody saying that she doesn't deserve her spot!
i just think that she's on the same level than Sasha and Natasha so if they're ever moved, Anja should too..

wouldnt go that far. she still has daria to overcome.

raquel also doesnt have lots of covers compared to daria or natalia.

^ i think so too, it's a little too much to compare her with Linda although they have a similar chameleonic quality..
imo Raquel should be at no.6, Kristen and Karen should move up too and Carolyn and Claudia should be lower..

Yep, it is extremely silly to say Raquel is not ICONIC.
RZ is versatile, totally. Just look at her works this year, from campaign to editorials to catwalk, she can satisfy any designer and give them what they need.

One thing I wanna ask you guys, if:
1~ Natasha doesn't have Gucci
2~ Freja doesn't have Lagerfeld
3~ ...

then these girls' career could be really dull. But Raquel is different, she is kind of 'having it all' type, and none of these girls can have such long relationship with Vogue, esp VOGUE US and Paris and Italia.

One more question, I still don't get it how Caroline Trentini, Jessica Stam and Coco Rocha flop so quick...This is a really tough business.
