I know I keep repeating myself, but I think that if Joan gets EL, Chanel & Gucci in one season, she will be the one to beat (plus a big Vogue cover). EL is probably the best cosmetics contracts out there, Chanel is the holy grail of rtw campaigns, & Gucci is one of the most frequently seen ads in all magazines. Those three combined honestly do make a supermodel if you ask me. She isn't leaving EL anytime soon, and she already has earned her loyalty from Gucci (3 campaigns). Karl is also very loyal to his models (minus Abbey Lee). People say that the Joan hype is a fluke, but she isn't going anywhere. I mean, how can she be a fluke if she has shot with all the major photographers multiple times? Usually, girls that are one-hit wonders are only supported by one or two major photographers. For example, 3 out of 4 of Iris's big campaigns were shot by M&M- 2 Givenchy & 1 Valentino. Joan has done:
M&M- Gucci, Givenchy, Roberto Cavalli, Stella McCartney
Mario Sorrenti- Barney's, Pirelli Calendar
Craig McDean- EL, Gap
Peter Lindbergh- David Yurman
I&V- H&M Holiday
Karl Lagerfeld- Chanel
Give it up, haters. She has done all that in just three seasons. Joan is quickly becoming a Terry Richardson fave, as well. She isn't going anywhere because she clearly has the industry support.
Although Karlie has an impressive resume, I think MDC weighs the future more heavily than the past when deciding who should become #1. Karlie has had her fair share of bluechip campaigns, but MDC bases their decision on buzz & industry support. If Karlie get a VS contract, it could either be the kiss of death to HF, or the track to supermodel-dom like Gisele. We will see what happens. I personally think EL is a more respected company than VS is to the fashion crowd. EL caters to the same client that buys Gucci & Chanel, while VS caters to younger girls who buy Juicy Couture. I'm not a VS hater by any means, though. It's just harder for a model to do both when big photographers don't see them as HF anymore.
Once again, we will see what happens............
