Well I think its hard to translate #'s versus sheer importance of a campaign, Lancome is a big coup for a model, a long standing cosmetics contract. Daria has that and she has achieved definately a status in the industry. You can argue Raquel is above her and some will agree with you, I still go with Daria, but they are in a level where it is arguable, so agree to disagree

But Raquel above Giselle. No way. And i mean that in the most respectful way possible.

No no I completely agree. What I mean from a (purist) perspective Daria has has the most prestigious contracts, but has done fewer campaigns (and maybe eds than Raquel). Gisele definitly is more successful than Raquel and has more campaigns, but she does A LOT of commercial stuff, especially in Brazil, whereas again from a purist point of view Raquel (season after season) does more high fashion campaigns. I'm just saying they're all on the same level now, but Raquel will never be a household name, which is shame really, she's like the anonymous supermodel of our generation, she's been on two Vogue Us covers (more than Daria and Gemma) but both times she was on the fold out.

When Gisele was on her rise, she eventually bumped Angela down to number 2 from 1. I'm sure MDC would not be afraid to do this again if there was a force noticeably greater than Raquel on all three important fronts: runway, edit, and campaigns. And it doesn't seem like anyone's star is burning brighter than hers....go Raquel!

well,Raquel said she would be more selective on runways,choosing the shows she like..so,maybe we don't see her as much as usual in the future seasons...Among the top 5,I think Natasha and Anja are the truely divas who can beat Raquel...



BTW:I am so sad about Maryna Linchuk and Irina K..these Russian models got a low position...ML is almost a Dior muse in recent seasons(the Ad campaigns...) and Irina,the little kid is even in 45th????She used to be loved by Prada...

I dont agree with the fact that raquel will never be a household name!She already is .She is one of the most respected and in demand model working right now!will raquel be a face in the crowd ??No , she wont ,but not every model desires that aspect of the industry .The icon list should never be about who is more famous...it should be about the quality of their work and their longivity.

I don't think I said, or implied that Raquel will never be a household name. I simply said she wasn't, and that there are girls with less impressive resumes that are more well known. It wasn't a knock to Raquel, just stating the fact. I think there has to be a certain amount of celebrity attached to being iconic.

As for the men, I wouldn't mind seeing Jon Kortajarena at number one. Though I'm not too mad at Mathias in the top spot!

I think, that's just a personal opinion, that the only girl right now who deserves to be an icon, is Natasha... she has an incredible resume, plus she can be an "household name".
all this generation of models... Lily, Sasha, Anja, Freja, Coco, Lara, Jessica etc... had what it takes to become icons, but compared to Natasha their resumes lack of a few things...
Natasha has both, she shines like a star and shes a hard working girl who succeeded very well.

natasha's fame is totally at the same level of raquel. --> not big unfortunately.

the Icon word brings to my mind immediately Freja, in terms of fame she is way more famous than natasha. but still, the list is made not only on fame, so i think one day we'll see raquel in the icons list, but natasha not very soon

To me model icon's are girls who come to represent something that sets them apart from other girls. Models like Raquel and Natasha may have impressive careers, but if you are using the term literally then I would say girls like Freja and Lara are more Iconic.

If one is talking about fame and recognizability by the general public OUTSIDE of Fashion, then the only girl in the top 10 who has that is Agyness, but unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your viewpoint) she is not getting the campaigns that she was...

...and I agree with Francy, to be considered truly ICONIC, the reputation must transcend the fashion industry and move into the general public realm, like that of gisele, kate, twiggy, naomi, cindy etc

In my point of view, Raquel should be moved to the icons list by now!!
Considering that the icons list is made with household names like Gisele, Kate, Naomi, Claudia, etc and not-household names like Isabeli, Malgosia, Karen, etc (because come on people, this girls are known only in the fashion circuit) there is no reason to not include Raquel on it. I remember her taking all good things since mmm 2000? The best campaigns (Prada, Versace, Valentino, Vuitton, Fendi, Cavalli, Gucci, Hermés, etc, etc), the best editorials (favourite of US & Paris Vogue, + Self Service, Número, W, etcs, etcs), + Victoria's Secrets catalogs, a Shisheido contract, fragrance advertisements (Versace, Fendi, Gucci, etc), and what is most important that all I said before, all the times a designer is asked about their favourite models, they always mention Raquel!!
So...what more? It is unfair keeping this girl on the simple list

I agree, people who are models have it so much harder to reach that level of fame as opposed to say like a sports star or an actor, so the people who you listed would be icons since my parents are able to know who Gisele, Naomi, and Cindy are.

It is weird how sports are like that, I mean when Lebron James was in his first year of highschool he was a star, compared to a model who would start in high school would go for the most part unknown unless he or she hit it really big.
