Natasha vs Lara
May 22, 2009 · 8 Comments

Raquel Zimmermann’s No.1 spot at the ultimately prestigious models.com ranking is about to be knocked off after a two year run. So the debate begins at TI as usual (remember those times, the arguments over Sasha vs Raquel?).

Like previously, the two models gunning for the No.1 spot are tricky… both of them are very different on their own. Lara has more zing , while Natasha has that commercial appeal.

Here’s a little low down/comparison on Natasha and Lara in the Vogue, runway, campaign field… the jury— you decide:

Vogue Paris: TIE

They are both VP regulars, but covers wise, Natasha has 5 covers, Lara Stone has only 3 but the Feb issue all dedicated to her can make up for anything.

Vogue Italia: LARA

Meisel clearly favours Lara from the begining, he shot her solo for the Dec 07′ cover, while Natasha only appeared in a group editorial recently, when she made her Vogue Italia debut.

4133-500w1881-500w

Vogue US: TIE

They are both pretty ‘new’ to the US counterpart. Natasha had her second ever solo ed in the April issue, and in the latest issue, Lara made her debut appearance in editorial, with Morgan Freeman.

Other Vogues: NATASHA

Natasha get it because Vogue RUSSIA dedicated one entire issue to her plus 3 other covers. Unfortunately for Lara, there’s no Vogue Netherlands.

4858-500w

Muse of designer: LARA

Simply: Riccardo Tisci. That’s where all the Vogue Paris alliance started. He introduced Lara to Carine, and the rest is history. Natasha is not particularly, strongly linked to a certain designer.

Editorial: LARA

Lara is clearly an editorial darling and has worked with many top photographers. Over the year, she appeared in more editorials than Natasha, who tend to be among group editorials pretty often these days.

6646-500w6572-500w
Runway: NATASHA

Lara was Calvin Klein Spring 07’s exclusive, plus she had records in opening Miu Miu, closing Prada. Natasha is hardly an exclusive runway model, but opens/closes practically the biggest shows and the most shows. Her winning point: that walk.

Campaigns: NATASHA

Need no explanations right? From Gucci to Nine West to Jil Sander, she can literally be the face of all brands, high or commercial fashion, luxury or minimalist… the list goes on. Moreover, Natasha repeats most of her campaigns. Lara’s biggest bookings so far remains multiple Givenchy campaigns, minor Calvin Klein and Hugo Boss ads— all in the same genre.

And is it a coincidence: they both did Jil Sander (for Fall 08′), the next season Spring 09′, Lara is out and Natasha did it all alone.

Body/image: LARA

Designers/photographers who are sick of ’seeing too much bones’ are very likely to go for curvier models like Lara. Part of her success has to be credited to her famous body, and that she dares to bare (sometimes too much) but it makes her different from others. She has a unique personality, one of a kind, that i-D issue on her simply said it all. Natasha on the other hand, is skinny skinny skinny, like every other model.

Who should be No.1? More likely Natasha, quite surely actually. Wait and see the rankings… soon.

I think it will be Poly

But good god can anyone explain some of mdc new rankings. How can Jac (who I admit is lovely ) come in quite SO high??

^^ I believe Jac is there on the strength of her upcoming 'only girl' campaign for Calvin Klein.
But maybe Betty from MDC can explain her position better.:flower:

^Nope:

April 07; March 08 and February 09 :flower:

Maybe you were thinking about the front cover of the VP calender?

Monika is about to be the biggest girl in the industry! It was way pre-mature though.

Well I think every season or so there are 1-3 girls who are in it for the long haul, not a fading 1 season star. Jac seems to be one of those select girls, maybe a little premature, but she definitely has a lot of the big clients' attention. I think her rank is justifiable.

Vogue US goes to Natasha. She already has 3 solo eds 2 just this year and her Vogue US debut ed way back 2005 i think, plus 2 group eds summing it all up to 5.

Whereas Lara's Vogue US eds are only 2, 1 group ed last May and her first solo this month.

I think the writer needs to research more on Natasha's workB)

^ But they started almost at the same time... I bet Lara will have more work for US.

Idk but Lara speaks me supermodel for me... that last ed in USV just showed me how much personality she has...
though I think it will be Poly, who's a amazing model too.

mmm.. taking Raquel from the list is like asking her for her retirement for me :(.

i don't think its like they're asking her to retire. It's just that she's moving a level up and that is on the Icon list which she rightfully deserves to be in after her loooong years of hard work. ;)

Natasha deserves number one in more way than Lara, I love Lara too but compared between them I think Nat is like workhorse in this industry seem like she works really hard.

In Lara's defence (not that I'm picking sides). Lara has a strong presence in W, with a lot of editorials and even a (front) cover and she has a strong editorial record for Vogue UK.

I have to admit Wayne Sterling is genius, making such a buzz with something like that. Not that I'm saying rankings are not a significant or useful tool (obviously not my favorite one, though, but each his own). But does it really matter for girls like Natasha Poly or Sasha Pivovarova or Lara Stone who have already achieved so much in their career to be number 1 or 2 or 66? If it matters for models, agencies or whoever in this business, I guess it's more for a girl who's getting her first spot ever or who's making a big move up in the ranking. I know that speculation can be entertaining, though :D

I love Lara but she cannot me number one.
For me a number 1 model should have a decent walk and Lara is really scary on the runway; plus she does way too many nudes for my taste.

i agree. Recognitions are just bonuses. Besides these girls are friends with each other. One would be happy for the others accomplishments. What's important is they have plenty of work and we get to see them everywhere
