Lara deserves the top spot, She is one of the first models in a long time that has managed to be high fashion and capture the public's attention. Even without the celebrity factor she would, still be in my mind, worthy of the number one position. She's everywhere.

why do people keep saying that she has caputered the publics attention ?She hasnt ..

↑ My thoughts exactly.. Agyness had much more exposure in her heyday than Lara has now.

^Exactly, the girls I know only know Agyness or Kate and in England only few know Natalia or Gisele (and if they do it's because U.K. Vogue constantly bombards us with her fairy tale life), they used to know of Gemma but I don't think they've even noticed that she's disappeared. They don't even know Daria and in the last 5 years there are probably very few magazines that didn't have at least one picture of Daria modelling in some capacity, hers is the face that is everywhere yet know one knows it. Same goes for Raquel and Stam really. Raquel isn't number 1 because everyone knows her, in fact no one knows, she's like the most anonymous model ever, she's number 1 because of the fact that season after season she books the best Jobs, and after her only Lara and Natasha do that, but Natasha just repeats everything, Lara seems to have a broader more prestigeous portfolio.

lara has a huge problem keeping clients..she mostly does stuff for one season(two max) and then they drop her. natasha has gucci, sasha prada etc.. those kinds of relationships are more important in my opinion

↑ I agree with that post.

I think that having a broader portfolio could be a double edged sword. Whereas Natasha repeats clients over and over means Gucci or whatever brand trusts her so much they decide to keep her for multi season campaigns.

I guess I just don't want Lara or Natasha to be number 1, but if I had to pick between the two I'd pick Lara simply because her story is more inspirational than Natasha's. Natasha been a star from the begining and just kept going, Lara's star took off much more slowly, I think she's actually been modelling longer than Natasha and her becoming number 1 would be like the industry finally aknowledging that size 0 is not crucial to success. Having said all of that I want Stam to be number 1, she's got the whole package, she's been around forever and her list of campaigns and editorials is just STAGGERING.

That's true but half the girls on the MDC top 50 (85) haven't done much lately. Catherine McNeil for example.

But not all of the 85 girls are considered to take the Top Spot, only 2, so your argument is invalid.

That's true but you have to consider that unlinke monthly ranking that other websites use Models.com takes longevity into account, that's why Raquel is number one and not Toni or Anna J. In 2008 Lily and Stam were working a lot, in 2009 it was all about Toni, Natasha and Lara... so technicaly they could have all been number one, but because they take longevity into account Karlie ins't likely to be number 1 now even though she's the most active model right now. That's why I think Stam deserves to be number 1, but that's just me...she's been on top for so long now.

Just because someone is the girl of the season, it doesn't mean she'd automatically be the new Number 1. It has already been known that the criteria set for ranking girls are : Campaigns, Covers, Contracts, Editorials, Longevity. That's pretty much it. As for the IT girls of the season, lets put it this way: Karlie scored more campaigns than Lara and Natasha this season so now should she be Number 1? No. Because Lara and Natasha's body of works are still far more greater than hers. Same goes for whoever was the IT girl of FW09, SS09, FW08 etc. They base the ranking on the cumulative work. You need to be more than just the flavor of the season to nab the Top Spot. It's all about consistency and quality of work. I have nothing against Anna Maria but lets make her as an example, she blew up 2 seasons ago and the season after. She had a million campaigns for 2 consecutive seasons but how many does she have now? If she continued to rake the same number of campaigns every single season then she'd be a candidate soon enough. Sadly she's fell off the positioned she's peaked which is at 6. As for Natasha and Lara, in all fairness to them their respective ranks only went higher season after season validating their consistency and longevity.^_^

Wow that was long.

No I agree, what I'm saying is that (just in my opinion) I wish it wasn't down to Lara and Natasha, for me they're not good candidates for Number 1. Models.com have said themselves that it's between Sasha, Lara and Natasha however I think that's unfortunate for models like Stam, Anja and Maria Carla because they're all getting older and at this rate may never be number 1. I think their are certain booking missing from all the model's resumes, e.g. Stam hasn't ever done Chanel or Gucci, Natasha hasn't done Prada or Chanel, Anja is severly lacking in Vogue Covers, and Sasha in general hasn't done much since she did Prada for so long, Lara also hasn't had quite a few of the most prestigious campaigns and Maria Carla isn't a U.S. vogue regular however at this point it doesn't matter so to me they're all equal, which is why I think they should all be contenders for number 1.

I wish lexposure.net would reniew their ranking , because it's more reliable than models.com
And after the campaigns are out, It's about time :judge:

hmm...well i wouldn't say sasha hasn't done much...off the top of my head, on top of the blue chip designer campaigns she's got:

- 3 beauty/fragrance contracts;
- added high pedigree commercial work to her repetoire like tiffany's
- ongoing contracts for a handful of brands/designers: consecutive seasons for H&M, Giada
- catalogue work for saks, bergdoff etc.
- she's had 32 vogue covers to date
- and last year booked the 3rd most amount of editorials, and she has consistently booked a lot each year to date...

i think she's very much in the race, whether she'll actually be number 1 i dunno, but i wouldn't discount her :)

↑ YEY! Thanks for your support lainey. I'm rooting for Sasha too personally though many think she's not in the race.

I think Natasha deserves the number one... As much as I love Lara, I don't think it's her time, yet! :)

I'm rooting for Sasha too personally though many think she's not in the race.

whoever says that Sasha isn't in the running for #1 doesn't know what
they're talking about. it's undeniable that Lara has had alot of campaigns
and covers quite recently. but in the long run Sasha's work still amounts
more than what Lara has achieved. khyrk is right, it's all about longevity.
Sasha has had Prada eversince she debuted, plus Armani, and has tons
more to boast of. Lara's never been able to keep a campaign for more
than 2 seasons, she's always been just hopping around. plus she also had
a lull moment in her career, which i think has never happened to Sasha,
or Natasha, for that matter.

and despite their horrible inaccuracy for the other spots, i must say that
MDC's got it right for the #2 spots, Sasha and Natasha. if ever they let
Lara overtake Sasha then to hell with that list  as for the others like
Stam and MCB, they should be in the running, if longevity is the most
important factor for the running. but unfortunately they've been surpassed
by newcomers, like Karlie, Toni etc.
