the sad thing about joan is that she doesnt get covers. correct me if im wrong, i dont think she has had a vogue cover yet, let's alone vogue paris or italian.

her eds are everywhere......but no covers.

she has that long term estee lauder contract which makes her stand out comparing to saskia or arizona or karlie.

How much money does she make from appearing on covers though? Probably not much. They might help in MDC rankings but I don't think they're as lucrative as campaigns.

u make nothing from covers. but it would be silly to put someone at the top without a decent amount of cover. joan wont be number one without at least a few vogue covers.

^I agree. Joan is my favorite, but I don't want her to be #1 at this very moment. She needs a VP cover to be considered for the top spot. A multi-girl US Vogue sounds attainable, but Karlie & Arizona would probably be on the cover as well making it an even playing field. A VI cover ma be a stretch, but Meisel just shot her for W, so it might happen. I think she needs 2 ot of 3 of these to be the strongest candidate. But you must admit, her campaign list seems to be the strongest of them all. If she gets Chanel, EL, Gucci & one more blue chip campaign then I don't see how she shouldn't at least be #3.

A VP or VI cover may not pay much in money but it's value as far as prestige and exposure goes is priceless. Joan hasn't had a major cover which is quite strange considering she's had an ed in every major edition of Vogue but I hope that changes in the future because if it doesn't I don't think she can be number 1. In fact the way things are now I don't think anyone besides Lara can be number 1.

I really doubt Freja will be Valentino OG, she wasn't even in the last campaign. I think or Natasha will be 1, or will be removed with Lara to the icons. Not yet, in a couple months I think.

Karlie, Arizona or maybe maybe Sasha will be number 1 I guess.
I don't think Joan will be cause she got indeed no cover and isn't everywhere like Karlie and Arizona are.

But I won't rule out Freja or Anja yet, but considering the latest status with work and campaignnews.... but hey season is still young, who know what will happen..

i dotn think natasha will be number one based on her work. the works of karlie, freja, anja, joan, are far superior than hers. she got 2 vogue covers this year and they are not even big covers. and her campaigns are pale in comparison to others. she is definitely not a strong candidate.

The only options I see for #1 at this point are Karlie, Freja & Joan. These 3 are neck & neck. Karlie is the editorial queen, Freja is the cover queen, & Joan is the contract queen. All three are campaign queens. The problem is that they each have what the other two don't. Karlie & Freja don't have the 7-figure contract (Dior Beauty is NOT a big contract), but Joan doesn't have the covers. Its hard to tell who will be #1 right now, but if Joan lands three big covers, then my bet is on her. I don't quite see Freja or Karlie getting Lancome, EL, Guerlain or Loreal any time soon.

I'm actually loving this thread 10x more than I did a few months ago. It was always Freja or Anja for #1, but now times are changing!! Love it

to be honest, i feel freja's look is out. i dont think she will score blue chip campaigns like she did in the past and that disaster campaign with chanel last season wont do her any good under the eyes of other designer.

my bet is karlie and joan will be big in the future. arizona is beautiful but that's it. she doesnt have depth like karlie does. i used to think karlie as a very ugly girl but she proves me wrong with her talent. sure arizona is huge right now but i still think in the long run karlie has the edge.

^My hesitation with Karlie is that she has already accomplished so much in the early stages in her career. She has already done 4 Dior campaigns, 3 Donna Karan campaigns, & 4 ODLR campaigns. Do you really think she will be shooting those same three campaigns in a few years from now? What other designers do you see her shooting campaigns for? This is a genuine question, because IDK if she has the look for other big brands. I think maybe JPG will give her a campaign, but in the end I could see her running out of favor like Natasha & Freja. When I look at the connections that Joan & Karlie have, I think Joan has more:

Karlie- Anna Wintour, ODLR, Donna Karan, Steven Meisel, I&V, Craig McDean
Joan- Anna Wintour, Carine Roitfeld, Frida Giannini, Riccardo Tisci, Mert & Marcus, Estee Lauder, Mario Sorrenti, Craig McDean, Roberto Cavalli, Karl Lagerfeld

As far as who has a brighter future, I think Joan may be the safe choice for MDC to make #1. I can smell some campaigns like MaxMara, Tom Ford & Louis Vuitton in her future. With Karlie, I don't know what to predict. I know I'm kinda schizophrenic with this Karlie/Joan thing, so does someone else have an opinion on where Karlie will be in the next few years?

I think Freja will be number one, she's the only one at the moment who matches campaign numbers with covers...

^I'm not the biggest Freja fan so I'm not very up-to-date with her work but the only cover of hers I remember this year is Vogue UK twice. Did she have any other covers?

Yeah I don't remember any covers recently except the British Vogue and that Pop (?) cover.

^Oh thanks, I totally forgot I have that issue and it's my favorite VI cover of the year lol.

MMMMMM... i went to models.com for covers, campaigns the last two years (2010-2011)

Joan
Got only 4 covers the last two years (2010-2011).
2011: elle uk, the last magazine
2010: id magazine fall, wwd beauty biz (MG)
All of her campaigns were MG. Appears in every big magazine + estee lauder contract.
campaigns f/w 11.12: Gucci MG,
Shows s/s 12: appears in every big show.

Freja
Got many ads over the last two years, couple OG, only one fragance Valentina, Pirelli calender.
Though she is falling down a bit since 2010.
F/w: She did OG Isabel Marant, Chanel, Valentina fragance. And repeat Harry Winston and H&M.

Covers 2011: 6. Two Vogue Uk, one VI MG, Pop, Numero with Arizona and Vogue Brasil.
2010: 2xVI cover (1 og, 1 mg), OG Vogue Paris, Vogue Paris collections and Vogue UK, W, ID, Numero Homme, Spur, Allure, Vogue Korea, The last magazine, Dossier,
eds: not really everywhere anymore.
Shows s/s 12: first time not the opener or closer at Chanel. Appears in the shows she wants.

Karlie:

Campaigns f/w 11.12: Bally, ODLR og, Dior beauty, dior fragance.
Also did Marc Jacobs lola fragance (is a contract, don't know if she still got that one???). In 2010 oa. ysl beauty, hermes OG.
Covers 2011: 3. ID spring MG, life, hb australia
Cover 2010: VI OG, Vogue China 3x (1 og, 2 mg), W Korea, Teen Vogue, Vogue Turkey, Greay magazine.
Eds: appears everywhere.
Shows: appears in the shows she want, just like Freja and Joan.

I don't think these 3 models are neck on neck.
So if i take a look at this, i think Joan will not be number 1 soon. She only got 4 covers, not even big one and not a single OG campaign behind her name. If she got some OG campaigns and more covers she makes a good shot at this position. Manage to repeat Gucci.

Karlie: only 3 covers in 2011. But she got a fragance contract (sure it's not a estee lauder contract). But Karlie does get big OG campaigns and got her big covers in 2010. Manages to repeat Donna Karan, ODLR and Dior.

Freja: the last couple months she is slowing down. She managed to repeat Chanel, but as we all know she isn't the face of Chanel this season. Appears couple times in Valentino, but wasn't in the latest campaign. Doesn't have a beautycontract or fragance contract. She did Valentina Fragance. She isn't also in every magazine anymore. Was is pirelli but we all know she was only there because Karl shot it.

Other models who I think got even better or just a good cv's as Joan, Karlie or Freja.
Abbey lee: not in every big vogue magazine. Also long time ago in VI and only once in VP. Never in Vogue UK. Also not a big vogue cover (uk, paris, italia, us). Got many adds, two fragancecontract, none beauty contract.
Sasha: Not that many campaigns anymore, but manage to have every season at least one big fish. Seen in every Vogue. Has been on the cover of VP, VI, Vogue UK. Did Dior and Armani beauty and Prada parfume. Now Juicy couture fragance.
Anja: still the face of more fragance contracts (elie saab, fendi) and face of dkny woman fragance. Also have or has a chloe fragance contract. She isn't the face of Fendi anymore, but i think she will be just fine without it. Only one big cover in 2009 Vogue Paris. Have been in every big Vogue.
Natasha: have been in every vogue. Multiple times on the cover of VP. Pirelli calender (if i'm correct) and also managed to have a big fish in add every season. She also slowed down with adds. Not a beauty or fragance contract if i'm right.

Considering all this and taking a look at Lara's profile I think Lara will be there for a couple months.
But put my money on........ karlie

well no can be # one with the past work they done!

number one can only be the top model of the Moment.

but still is really hard to tell!i mean i dont know i feel who ever they choose 75% will disagree because it really can be anyone game. is CRAZY!

freja will be the top choice, but if she doesnt anything from now,to the moment Lara is remove.hmmmm wonder what will happen

ETA: Karlie must be Lara. Cause i have no idea who will get it.
Maybe, but i was bored and I think they must take a look at the work they got right?? So I went back two years ago when Lara was made number 1 to see why Lara was made the number 1 girl.
The #1 girl must have the support of big photographers and magazines right?? And also must have big covers and adds right?? Considering this I don't think anyone at this time but Lara deserves the #1 spot.

The time Lara went number one was also based on her work right?? So if I had to guess right NOW i will take a look at their work, deals etc. And isn't that what we are doing? Guessing who will be number 1??
So my last sentense must be: after the campaigns I will put my money on someone. i mean maybe big fragance deals or beauty contract got ended etc. And Freja is slowing down, so who knows.

I think Karlie & Freja are on their last leg with their respected houses. Freja is done with Chanel, and Karlie at Dior has gotten really old. Karlie is also rumored to have not landed this season's Donna Karan campaign. I think Joan is just getting started with her reign. Something tells me Frida is not done with her at Gucci. She is also now on Team Karl Lagerfeld, and we all know Karl is very loyal to his models. Out of the three girls, Joan is the only one with a mega contract, and we can now add three covers for 2011 to her resume (V December 2011). She is also going to be in the 2012 Pirelli Calendar. She is no longer just an M&M favorite. Mario Sorrenti, Craig McDean & Terry Richardson have shown interest in her. Freja & Karlie have never had this many things going for them. I'm not saying she should be #1 right now, but she will surpass the others very soon.
