words: sacha strebe
name: meg doyle
height: 5’11″
agency: Vivien’s Models
scouted: 2010 – Herald Sun/ LMFF Model Search

With limbs for days and a face that is quite simply `rare rare rare’, Meg is sure to be the envy of her peers. So in that vein, we thought it appropriate to dress the statuesque stunner in the mildew hue, and she positively radiated. While Meg isn’t minty fresh to the modelling world, having been scouted at a Herald Sun model search two years ago, she is very green. The 18-year-old only just finished school and while she has plans to study, her primary focus is modelling where she tells us `you meet a lot of strange/talented people’ and are told `a lot of bizarre things’. Intrigued? So were we, read on to discover the strange comments a stylist once made at a recent shoot. Meg’s candid personality and wit is just as rare as her beauty.

When were you first discovered? Where were you? And were you surprised?
My Aunty sent a photo of me into a model comp and low and behold, I ended up winning. I signed with Vivien’s through that.
Did you ever consider modelling before you were scouted? Why/why not?
People had told me I had the right height and body shape for it, but I don’t think I seriously considered it.
Can you share an anecdotal story with us or any funny/extraordinary moments from the shows?
Nothing overly `funny’ comes to mind. You meet a lot of strange/talented people, so I get told a lot of bizarre things. A stylist recently commented on how pale I am and then proceeded to ask if I ever actually go outside. I just told her `no’.
Australian models are becoming highly sought after internationally, with both Abbey Lee and Miranda Kerr in the top 10 ranking on models.com, why do you think Aussies are so well received overseas?
I think that Australians are well known for their laid back, polite nature. International clients probably find that refreshing.
What do you think of model-off-duty style?
Backstage at shows I often think to myself `what the heck am I doing here?’. They all look wicked cool in just t-shirts and jeans. I feel like such a dork!
Describe your personal style?
I think my style changes all the time. I think I’d get bored if I only subscribed to one particular style.
Who are your favourite fashion designers/clothing labels?
Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and Sass & Bide.
Do you have an idol/icon?
Style-wise I would ideally love to be Audrey Hepburn and Kate Moss’ love child.
What would you be doing if you weren’t modelling?
Keeping the dust off the couch.
What celebrity have you been told you look like?
Anne Hathaway.
2012 is set to be a huge breakthrough year for you – what are some of your new year aspirations?
I’m so itching to travel, experience new things and different cultures.
What are your favourite things to do backstage?
EAT! Catering is always ace.
What are you doing when you’re not modelling?
I work. I’m trying to save money to travel the world.
Do you have any quirky habits?
I’m a bit awkward and weird all round really.
What’s your favourite food?
Anything involving bread, cheese and avocado.
As a Melbournite, what’s your favourite coffee haunt?
Degraves St and Flinders Lane are always good spots for a coffee (without trying to sound like a wanker).
What is the key to de-stressing after a long day on set?
I like to chill out, watch a good movie or series. I’m addicted to Always Sunny in Philly at the moment.
