Designer Valentino has stolen her hart with his amazing clothes and her big dream is to walk the Victoria’s Secret show one day. Meet Dutch beauty Melody Vroom…

How did you get discovered?
My mom bought me a ticket for ‘The Model Convention’. This is an initiative of Mariana Verkerk and Mauritz Briët. At The Model Convention you can discover if you have the potential to be a model. You have to walk on a catwalk and show your pictures to different agencies. When I went there, 5 agencies were interested in me so that’s when I decided that I wanted to be a model.

What does your career do for you?
Because of my career I can travel to all kinds of places, which I really love. Me and my family absolutely love travelling, we do it every summer. I’m not even a fulltime model yet, but I already went to Paris and Milan for my job and I really enjoyed it.

Tell us a bit about your first photoshoot ever.
My first photoshoot ever was with Laura Bausch. My mom stumbled upon her Instagram one day and she showed it to me because she loved the pictures that Laura had posted on her Instagram. We contacted her and planned a photoshoot. It was so much fun and Laura is also great at her job. I still love the pictures. Fun fact: we used the pictures of this photoshoot to show the agencies at the The Model Convention:


Who were your favorite models growing up?
I have always loved Doutzen Kroes. I enjoyed watching the Victoria’s Secret show when she had to walk, I thought it was kind of special to see someone from my tiny little country walking in a big show like that. I still love watching the show, only now I can watch Romee Strijd rocking the catwalk instead of Doutzen!

How would you define your personal style?
I think my personal style is casual with a lot of dark colours. Probably about 75% of my clothes are black, just because you can combine black with everything and it always looks good. I think it’s really important that clothes are comfortable but still look cute, so that’s why I almost always wear casual clothes as they are really comfortable and pretty most of the time.

Do you have any favorite fashion designers?
My favourite fashion designer is Valentino. I always watch the shows during Fashion Week and I have never not liked the clothes. If you haven’t seen the SS16 show yet, go check it out now because those dresses are amazing!

How do you stay in shape?
I try to eat healthy most of the time but I think balance is super important. I eat healthy about 80% of the time and the other 20% of the time I enjoy my favourite unhealthy foods. I also try to workout 3 times a week, I love working out! It makes me feel really good. In fact, I have an Instagram account which is called @mymodelkitchen, where I share my tips, tricks and yummy recipes for a healthy body!

What are your guilty pleasures food wise?
Oreo’s for sure! I mean, who doesn’t love those cookies?

Do you have any beauty secrets?
I think drinking enough water is a must if you want to have a good skin. I used to forget to drink water all the time but since I started drinking more water, my skin is clear and I never really have breakouts anymore.

How do you spend your free time?
Horse-riding! This has been my hobby since I was 2 years old. I still love doing it and if I have some time left after school, I immediately go horse riding. Sometimes it’s hard to combine modelling, horse riding and school, but I try my best.

Do you have any advice for those who want to start modeling?
If you want to become a model, it’s important to take some natural pictures and send them to different agencies. If more agencies are interested, then have a talk with all of them so you can find out which agency is the best for you. If you don’t click with the people from the agency, it’s not the right one for you!

What do you think MODELLIST-ID can do for the model community?
I think it’s a great initiative. It provides a platform with different kinds of aspects to the life of a model, which I think is very useful. Models can share their experiences, recipes, tips and tricks with each other and people who want to become a model can also see what the life of a model is like!

Do you have any big career goals you want to hit?
I think one of my biggest goals is to walk the Victoria’s Secret show one day. When I watch the show I always get really happy because of the positive vibes.
