Men's Denim

you can't really expect them to be of high quality... i mean, look at the pricepoints :stuart:

The colour will change.. into something slightly yellowish

No, but look at apc...$140 for selvedge, quality and hard wearing stuff with a decent cut. Okay, so Cheap Monday is about half that price. :P

Slightly yellowish? Is that a good looking colour?

You seem to have answered that yourself ;)

It's a good looking colour, if you like the fact that it looks like someone has urinated up and down your leg... Otherwise it is really sad.. but hey, they are so cheap, you could easily get another pair :)

But one thing that keeps the price down for the Cheap Mondays is that they spend nothing at marketing, which keep the costs really down and of course they can have a lower price. That's one factor for the low price.

Trawling through the thread i found some posts about the poor quality of Cheap Monday jeans. Opinions on this brand? I'm asking because their unwashed denim is really on the low-side pricewise.

Also they have raw white denim. What does white denim look like after it's been worn in?

I've mostly heard bad things about what happens to Cheap Monday jeans once they're washed (never bought some myself, I don't wear "denim tights"). You can't expect much from a jean that contains lycra though...

rick owens? sizing? why does he bother?

i've got a pair that are a 36 that i can hardly breathe in, and a pair in a 32 that fit just right, and some pairs in between. all i can say is don't even think about buying unless you can try them on, or you trust whoever is measuring for you to give an accurate appraisal. the problem is that it might say 34 and fit like a 34, or it might say 34 and fit like a 32. or 38. sometimes i extrapolate and think that he assigns sizes the way he wants people to wear them. actually, i extrapolate that for a few designers nowadays. i'd rather make my own decisions about how i wear something, but they don't seem to want to let me.

if i were generalizing i would say that i think r.o. runs small.

 So, it's just like his mainline.

About the GQ spread - when Banana Republic jeans cost $126 - you know there is something clearly wrong with the whole denim scene

Gotcha. Maybe i won't go and buy that pair that's calling out to me from caliroots.com after all, and just head for a good RB1 instead.

I think we're talking about his mainline here..

If you are talking about what's on Yoox under Rick Owens, there are jeans from Slab, drkshdw, and _possibly_ his mainline, although I have my doubts.

^Oh - it's just that usually on Yoox, slab and drkshdw are listed separately from Rick Owens. They're still very nice though, well, there's only two pairs I like.

Speaking of Yoox and denim, has anyone seen the Burberry jeans? :yuk:

and the $845 YY jeans  Wer they made in heaven?

I've seen the brands listed separately, but I looked at the jeans, and if you close in on the front left pocket you can clearly see the "slab" icon he used to identify the items from that line (also the details on the rear pockets). Or you can see the stitching on the back, just below the waist, that indicates the drkshdw stuff. Yoox doesn't seem to care too much about accuracy in a lot of cases, I've found.

At the Barney's in Boston, they have a little bit of Junya, inexplicably including a $900 pair of jeans that look like... Wranglers. Even the salespeople don't know what hell to say.

yeah that's twice what they've cost in the past.

You're right, they were Slab - and rather nice, at that - if only they hadn't been a size too big (I got a 32), they would have been the best-fitting jeans I have ever encountered. I returned them, though, mainly because the button-fly buttons literally fell off the first time I put the pair on  The Yoox price was $240 too - for the denim and cut, OK, but buttons popping off at that price-point?

HELP! I NEED A NEW PAIR OF JEANS (i hope this is the right thread to post this...)
this summer i am gonna be in New York, and besides visiting my sister (which is of course important) i wanna buy a new pair of jeans.
The thing is that as much as i am a total clothes freak (proud tFSpoter), i know absolutely nothing about jeans. I've had levi's that gave me amazing results, i've had a pair of diesels, energy, dior homme, nudie jeans, hugo boss, i've had armani jeans... so far i got good results from most of them, and now i am looking for the next pair.
REQUIREMENTS:
1-preferably a denim brand... i'd rather buy a good pair of levi's than any high end brand who is not specially reputed for doing great denim (
2-by reputed i dont mind anythign like 100 years experience but that their main focus is on jeans. I don't care if it's the latest hype label in L.A. as long as it gives good results, ages well, and so on...
2-not looking for anything too extravagant... i am not gonna pay $500 because the jeans are handsewn in a tiny atelier in Holland by forest fairies... maybe for other reasons but not that
3-i would like to take advantage of being in the states to buy something one can not find in europe... (abercrombie is not an option)
4-budget from 0 to $500
5-i already have skinny jeans, baggy jeans... i am looking for something pretty basic... a little low rise, a bit skinny but not skin-tight

AND THAT'S IT (which i realize may be a lot of requirements for just a pair of jeans).
It's not that i am lazy to look for them, but i'd like to go straight to something that experts like you :flower: might consider suitable for me :D

thank you all!

This is an easy one! Go to Blue in Green (8 Greene St., full contact info on their web site blueingreensoho.com) and they will help you find the perfect pair of jeans. Ask to see Gordon, but if he is not available, you will still get excellent suggestions and recommendations.

I personally like Full Count 1108 for the fit you describe, but you may find other things you like more... I haven't tried all the brands they carry. Happy shopping!

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with BiG; I am a satisfied repeat customer, however. :)
