Some post-Alice news - Mia's been cast in Gus Van Sant's new film Restless and Lisa Cholodenko's The Kids are All Right.

Mia Wasikowska is in final negotiations to star in Gus Van Sant’s Restless.

The coming-of-age drama tells the darkly complex tale of a teenage boy and girl who share a preoccupation with mortality. Shooting begins this fall from a screenplay by Jason Lew, developed from a play he wrote. Lew attended film school with Bryce Dallas Howard who will serve as one of the film’s producers alongside her father, Ron Howard, and Brian Grazer.

Wasikowska appears later this month in Amelia starring Hilary Swank and will star alongside Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.

Mia Wasikowska has joined the cast of THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT.

The indie film starts shooting tomorrow in New-York City. The young actress just finished playing the lead role of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. She was also one of Gabriel Byrne's patient in the first season of IN TREATMENT.

Written and directed by Lisa Cholodenko, The Kids are All Righttells the story of Nic and Jules (Annette Bening and Julianne Moore) who have raised two smart and wonderful kids, Joni (Mia Wasikowska) and Laser (Josh Hutcherson). When Joni turns 18, she and Laser meet their biological sperm donor father, Paul (Mark Ruffalo), and his presence in their lives causes friction within their family.

Mia Wasikowska (Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland) and Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds) seem to be on their way to becoming two of the biggest rising stars out there right now. Both actors are now teaming up with director Cary Fukunaga (Sin Nombre) in bringing another adaption of the classic novel Jane Eyre to the big screen. I don’t know if anyone was really hoping for another one, but the talent involved definitely has me interested now. You can read the details after the jump.
Variety reports that the film will be a period piece and will play up the gothic elements of the story. Published in 1847, the classic novel tells the story of Jane (Wasikowska), a demure governess who discovers her surly employer Rochester (Fassbender) is harboring a dark secret. Ellen Page was once attached to the project to play the title role, but has since left the project. …

She looks so lovely in all these recent pics I'm really happy she's getting so much work, I can't wait to see Alice. Fassbender seems a strange choice for Rochester opposite her in Jane Eyre though. He's gorgeous but a bit too young and obviously good looking for the role, IMO
