MICHAEL DONOVAN is an artist and photographer born in Spokane, WA.
His eclectic work merges portrait, lifestyle, editorial, fashion, still life, documentary and fine art. A strong and bold voice infuses his subjects which include the mundane, the spiritual, the sexual, the commercial and the characters who put it all together. His images tend to swing from very subdued and quaint to work that is more visceral and graphic. Pop culture sometimes sneaks its way in to his images followed by work that suggests a cult-film quality. His visual aesthetic is influenced by fashion photographers, cult films, his personal dreams, nightmares and fantasies as well as gurus, spiritual, philosophical and cult leaders including Ram Dass, Osho, Terence McKenna and Charles Manson.
His work has appeared in Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Marie Claire, Playboy and his clients include Interscope, Sony, The Pierre Hotel and Gap. He currently hosts a bi-weekly podcast, Walking Home featuring a range of guests. Donovan lives in NYC and is open to assignments near and far.
