GQ NAMES MOBOLAJI DAWODU FASHION DIRECTOR
Dawodu to Oversee Fashion for Both GQ and GQ Style
New York, NY—January 11, 2018—In conjunction with the release of his first issue as editor-in-chief, Will Welch has named Mobolaji Dawodu fashion director of GQ. Dawodu has previously worked with Welch on GQ Style and will now oversee fashion for both brands.
“The style gods really broke the mold when they made Mobolaji,” Welch says. “The thing he loves more than clothes is people. So as a stylist, he’s looking to really connect with his subjects on a human level—and the clothes follow so naturally from there. If we can make the experience of reading and following GQ akin to looking at the world through Mobolaji’s glasses, I think we’ll keep surprising and inspiring people every day."
Dawodu is one of the most influential figures in modern cosmopolitan style thanks to his trademark global point of view. He has done art direction and street casting on location in over 30 countries. Previously, Dawodu was style editor-at-large at The Fader. Other notable credits include costume designer for the Disney film, Queen of Katwe, as well as the 2013 Sundance Award-winning film Mother of George. In the commercial market, Dawodu’s portfolio includes Apple’s Silhouettes campaign, and style direction for The African Game, Puma’s celebration of soccer culture on the continent. He is based in New York City.
