Model Casting F/W 06.07

The castings this season have definately been interesting. Has anyone else noticed that the first six models in the Givenchy FW06 show were all black ( with Liya opening the show). Style.com gave Tisci kudos for addressing the issue of the business lacking diversity and he def deserves it.

And it seems like I'm the only one who liked the scary models at prada:ninja:
The most interesting "newish" face for me is Bette Franke who opened YSL yesterday.

Bette is my fave new girl, too, and I loved the cool Givenchy lineup. It addressed the issue elegantly and to the point.

It was great that Liya opened Givenchy. I love her! I also like most of the Prada scary girls with the exception of Tanya D. I think Bette is great and Anna Maria Ura as well.

I definately support this invasion of new(at times scary) faces. I think more designers should follow the footsteps of Prada who are known for introducing new girls and turning them into stars. Another new face I really like is Svieta Nemkova.

What Tisci did was long overdue. I hope that the modelling will start to embrace woman of colour. The industry is taking baby steps but it will get there. It seems now that Asian models have got there time to shine ^_^ and hope that it will continue.

What' s happening to Sophie Vlaming. I haven' t seen alot of her in Paris:(

I really don't like these new scary girls, but I do like Anna Maria U. I hope there will be more diversity too, as it is tiring seeing only a few models of color here and there.

Sophie is a big disappointment so far! I expected her to do more major shows especially because she is one of the faces of Balenciaga SS06. She wasn't even at Balenciaga. Perhaps it has to do with her school. She's only 16 (or 15?)!

how has bette done in ny and milan

she seems to be doing all the major runways.

It' s sad:cry: . Maybe you are right and she is getting her education along side modelling. I have only seen her at Paco Rabanne and Givenchy in Paris. As far as I know she hasn't done any shows in Milan and NY was a disappointment too.

Bette Franke has done damn well as far as I know:woot:

Wow really? I thought I saw Sophie a lot in NYC...

Sophie Vlaming:
NY: #71 (20 pts)
Milan: #95 (6 pts)
combined: #76 (26 pts)

Bette Franke:
NY: #14 (69 pts)
Milan: 73 (13 pts)
combined: #30 (82 pts)

i wonder why models' careers are so shortlived these days. it must suck to be huge for a season or two and then drop back into obscurity.

and designers are so influenced by each other. if a girl gets one big show, suddenly everyone wants her.

isnt that the truth. designers dont want girls to become megastars and become like the supermodels of the early nineties, first of all. second of all, fashion is all about newnessand freshness and trends. the same goes for models. they want to bring in new looks and faces.

I am sick to death of seeing ugly, skinny(or not so) weird looking foreign teenagers stumbling along the runways. They don't understand the clothes at all just stare at the cameras and crave another cigarette.Caroline Trentini espcially.BARF BARF:ninja::angry::sick::yuk:

Yes, I think designers much prefer this new system where they 'make' the girl; the girl doesn't make the clothes. The model always remains secondary to the clothes. I think that's why Freja does so well; because she is so non-distracting, and that's why a model like Daria seems to only open the more glamorous, wearable clothing shows; not the artsy cutting edge shows.

I like what Givenchy did. I'm all for diversity and so for the first 6 models on the ramp to be models of colour-:flower: to Tisci.

marqueemoon, what you said about the designers is very true because I remember that last season Hilary had 2 shows in NY and none in Milan before Paris where she did the best shows, and now she's one of the top new faces. But it's cool since I'm a Hilary fan.

Other "faders" (Callidora, please verify!:(

Morgane Dubled
Tiiu Kuik
Inguna Butane
Valentina Zeliaeva
Cameron Russell
Lily Cole
Mona Johannesson
Tasha Tilberg (Maybe her "comeback" was intended for one season only?)
Elena Baguci (Man, what the f!ck happened with this one?! She was supposed to be huge!)

Models who have yet to fade, inexplicably and exasperatingly so:

Natasha Poly
Lily Donaldson

Well, Morgane has had a pretty damn good runway season, as she always does; I posted her numbers somewhere earlier. But her problem is that she never gets any big campaigns, so therefore she's always coasting.

Tiiu:
NY: #69 (20 pts)
Milan: #96 (5 pts)
combined: #77 (25 pts)

Yes, I think Tiiu is a definite contender for biggest fader this season, which sux.

Inguna:
NY: #18 (65 pts)
Milan: #42 (29 pts)
combined: #22 (94 pts)

I actually think Inguna's had a pretty good season. She comes close to cutting the top 20.

Valentina:
NY: #67 (20 pts; only show was RL open)
Milan: #38 (32 pts)
combined: #50 (52 pts)

Not a great season, but I think her long running RL campaigns are what brings her the money and keeps her successful.

Cameron:
NY: #77 (13 pts)
Milan: #83 (8 pts)
combined: #86 (21 pts)

Yeah...I think Ford is just a horrible agency. They never manage to keep their potential 'it' girls at the top.

Lily Cole:
NY: #54 (26 pts)
Milan: #27 (42 pts)
combined: #40 (68 pts)

Mona:
NY: #92 (10 pts)
Milan: zip, zero, zilch
combined: #111 (10 pts)

I think Mona's height works against her; she never is a huge runway presence but she gets her share of campaigns because of her face. So as long as TSE/Nina Ricci, etc continue to use her, she'll be fine.

Tasha:
NY: #45 (30 pts)
Milan: #45 (28 pts)
combined: #44 (58 pts)

Elena Baguci:
NY: #65 (21 pts)
Milan: zip, zero, zilch
combined: #88 (21 pts)

Yeah, what the hell happened?? I have no idea.

Mona and Cameron havent really faded. They were never models to do alot of shows before. Morganes career I think is actually going up right now.

But the rest of your assignments i will definetly agree. :(

i think tasha is just selective with her shows. she picks the ones she wants to do.

It's weird... like the designers decide all at once that they're tired of a particular girl.

Maybe it's partly because a lot of the new faces are of the "novelty" type that quickly gets boring. I don't see Tanya or Sasha lasting much longer. At the same time, the fact that designers find these girls even remotely interesting makes you question their aesthetic taste.

I'm so glad that lily cole is going down. man, is she boring.
