Model Casting S/S 2021

A lot of big models walked for fendi. (Imaan, Anok, Anna, Mica etc) Does that mean they’ll have to skip the rest of the season?

If I’m not mistaken, all the affected Fendi models flew out to Paris as soon as possible, skipping a wide variation of shows depending on when they flew, but all skipping Valentino. Therefore, the cast was all over the place... I wonder who was COVID positive. Did they also walk Versace, since Selena aired the news?

Milan the most notoriously anti diversity of them all showing it will "try" booking diversity to help boost retail sales.
Real facts. Valentino, Fendi, prada, to a lesser degree versace has always been known to be anti diversity. Check previous diversity threads going back up to the 90s. Even last year... 2018.2017 2016 2015... How many years with token black and token Asian model?

Seems like we really are at a stage where the clout of a casting director is more important that any brand

How did you come to this conclusion?
The brand hires the casting director... Pays the casting director... It seems like brands are not prioritizing model castings and fashion shows like they used to. Who cares who walks the show when it has no impact on sales or doesn't appear in any marketing metric.

Look at the campaigns and digital advertising for these brands. 1 picture of Rihanna wearing a brands outfit is worth more all the models in the show wearing the outfit on the runway, on the street, at home,.

I feel like some people have the mindset where certain brands are no good whatever they do. Versace had curvier models this season, Fendi & Valentino have used models of all sizes and ages for a while and still people will just say "Oh they're just doing it for attention!". What will it take?

It's been a lot of damned if you do, damned if you don't situations. However, I think brands are often redeemed if these changes are permanent (eg. Versace including curvier models from here on out, and not just in runway, but also in campaigns, lookbooks, social media, etc.). A lot of brands from Milan have been historically white but many brands have incorporated diversity in their casting outside of the token black/Asian model; Prada comes to mind in having very diverse casts nowadays.

Prada does indeed have nice castings, but they still don't include different sizes or ages at their shows or campaigns (except maybe Sara B.). When it comes to campaigns, at least Jill has had Chanel and McQueen. Paloma has done tons of capsule collections and B-list campaigns. Then there's Ashley of course. When it comes to age, it's all starting be mixed up, there's no limits anymore. With the POC thing I don't see how can there be a "problem" anymore, when Adut, Imaan, Anok, Mika, Sora, Ugbad, Binx, He Cong etc. are dominating everywhere.

MDC rankings are often ridiculous and outdated but currently half of their "Top 50" are POC.

I don't know what they are "dominating"
Dominating the runways have been proven to be less important relative to editorial and commercial work. The industry killed itself with the 6 exclusives for each show in each city game they greedily created for over a decade. From prada and ck exclusives to Wang, ck, rl, mj, kors, Anna Sui,vera Wang, proenza, coach, r13, Oscar exclusives, etc for just ny a year ago... Milan and Paris were even worse! Last I checked, all major houses using mostly non models for their high visibility marketing.

I do agree with most of your other points overall. It's just sad that gigi, Kendall make more money from modeling gigs than all those girls combined. Maybe more than entire agencies of hundreds of models.

Regarding diversity is here but it's coming in reverse. High fashion is not leading, it's following the trend. Similar to how streetwear has become more important as a trend setter now than high fashion. This thread used to have 100 pages, now its 4. The shows and castings need to disappear like the CD player or be completely changed.

Loved Paco Rabanne. Diverse but with no gimmicks.

Tons of models are already flying out from Paris... even some regular Chanel, Miu Miu & LV girls, presumably due to the rise of COVID cases there. Wonder what the big Oct. 6 show day is going to look like :P

The top girls were at Chanel (Vitto, Rianne, Mica, Kiki...)....70 looks and only 4 black models :ninja:

The casting reminded me much of that fleet of fake snow on the runway... Nice to see all the bigger models at Chanel, and that Vitto COVID rumor being disproved, LOL.

I still wonder what happened with Mica at Isabel Marant. She was on the teasers of the show but then she wasn’t there.

Not too many particular standouts this season, more of the same. Newer girls like Maty, Mika, and Sacha continuing to establish themselves. Many exclusive girls were freed this season, like Sculy, Lola, Vilma, Grace Valentine, Masha, Klara; Vilma and Grace stood out to me. In terms of new faces, Jade Nguyen and Amrit were memorable.
