I luv luv luv the packaging for Anna Sui's makeup line, it's my all time favorite. I actually by it just because I love how it looks, lol. But I can't seem to find any good pictures online. You just have to see for yourself!

How does the packaging of a product affect whether or not you will consider purchasing the product?

I thought about it.. and I think that when it comes to makeup, as long at the product itself seems good and the packaging is somewhat sturdy, the prettiness of the packaging is just an added bonus.

However if we're talking skin and body products I actually think that I tend to be more critical and skeptical the prettier the packaging.. Maybe it's because I have higher standards for my skin products than I have for make up...

I often find myself thinking that the prettiness is a camouflage, trying to cover up a product that basically sucks.

In my case, I pay attention to the product other than packaging for skin and body care but I instantly decide to buy for example lipstick with the cute packaging although I do not need new ones.

yeah, i'm dumb and shallow enough to buy something just for the cute packaging.

though i draw lines too. bought that pillow lipbalm from Lancome cause it looked so cute, tasted nice but it didn't hydrate my lips properly nor could i easily stow it into my pants pocket. so back it went to the store.

but sometimes i really want those Dior palettes (esp Detective Chic) just to rip the makeup out and replace it with an agenda.

Oh yeah, I can definitely be drawn to the packaging, even if the product turns out to be ... not so good. D'oh.

Gotta agree with Benefit's packaging; it's adorable. And Couture_Whore, I also agree with the Anna Sui packaging - the lip gloss ring in particular is fantastic!

^^^ Gorgeous stuff. And the Jo Malone stuff too.

Packaging is important to me. Many of my products (make up & lotions) stay out in the open. Looking at cheap drugstore stuff depresses me. I want to feel luxurious. Of course, I don't only buy for high price or packaging, I have to like the product. But the look definitely weighs in.

I also don't like to have tons of variety. I like multiples. I have 30+ Mac & 5-6 Shiseido Eyeshadows for instance. I think it helps with clutter not to have tons of different kinds of things. I do try to keep everything simple. Though I can be drawn in to buying Benefit because of all the fun promises, I prefer quieter packaging.

Those are my 2 cents :flower:

I am definitely a fan of good packaging, which is why I display all my Escada perfume boxes on my desk and so forth: it's less money I have to actually spend on decorations. I love Urban Decay packaging too; the bus token eyeshadow cases are so fun and their palettes are funky. I have to echo the sentiment about skincare though-pretty packaging is just a disguise (whereas with UD, the packaging is good AND the product rocks) for a subpar product.

And the new Heatherette for MAC packaging is so awesome, I'd buy product just to get it.

being an art director, packaging is very important to me...
in my mind, if you spend the money to do interesting packaging, you've probably spent money in research and coming up with cool products and colors...

my favorite cosmetic packaging is calvin klein, both the older collection (designed by linda cantello) and the new ck line...
both were designed by fabien baron...
my only complaint is that the new line doesn't have many foundation choices for women of color...

^ I adore the Calvin Klein packaging!! The older one not the ck Calvin Klein. It's absolutely perfect, minimal, chic! Like Calvin Klein designs!!
