Most Overpriced Designer? #1

Ummm.....this jacket from Chloe is $8,665 US dollars!!! Making the collection this expensive is just alienating its customers. With the new designer and all, they should make things a little more accessible (ie. cheaper) to draw customers in, and then when they fall in love with the 'new Chloe', next season they should raise the prices.

Either way, this jacket is over priced (even though its beautiful imo)

I've never heard of a design house lowering the prices because of a new designer. What kind of business tactic would that be, esepecially if all they plan on doing is raising the prices the next season? Also, that is only one piece from the collection, other pieces are around the same price that the collection has always been at, even when Phoebe Philo was still there.

I saw a pair of Alligator/Crocodile yellow pumps from Balenciaga (in the latest issue of Harpers Bazaar US and they were literally something like $7,000!!!

Oh. My. GOD.

Is Balenciaga JOKING with these prices? The last time I checked - shoes were at MAX $1000.

Does anyone else have any other Balenciaga prices?

That's not just Balenciaga. Anything made out of alligator or croc would be up there, maybe not as high as $7,000, but certainly a few thousand easy. The better the skin, the higher the price.

I remember back in 2002, this Gucci bag was around $16,000

Wow that's expensive but its a bag. It could last forever.

Shoes don't last forever. They break and wear really easily.

Gucci and Balenciaga are ridiculous with their pricing. I think one of the bags from Spring 2008 was something like $17,000 and it was just plain patent leather!!

The Gucci Group are CRAZY.

:innocent:

Okay so just looking through the latest issue of Harpers Bazaar US, I was astonished at what some of the prices were! Are they real?

Burberry Fall 2008 feather dress: US$23,995

alex wang imo, you could recreate his looks easily by shopping in a mixture of thrift shops, american apparel etc. At least with other labels, it's slightly harder to substitute.

about the crocodile....

CHANEL PARIS-BIARRITZ COLLECTION around 30.000€ (that's about $45000, la kruger doesnt come with the bag) and i think some hermes get even higher (think "$140,000 one-of-a-kind pink crocodile Birkin bag with diamond hardware")

^^^ $130,000 for a BAG!!!!!!!! You've got to be KIDDING!! That's literally a bag for royalty! No one is ever going to see it! It'll be in a glass case or something!

 :innocent:

Why do we even need a thread for this? We all know that ALL designers are overpriced. I mean sure their is a huge gap in production quality between designer labels and ordinary stores but I doubt it's THAT much.

In terms of styles, I'm gonna go with Prada and Vera Wang- I don't care how awesome the quality is, it's still a well sewn, silky potato sack. I can't really speak for overpriced in terms of garment quality.

On the other hand, I find BCBG to be quite reasonably priced for what you get. I've got a vintage BCBG mini dress from presumably around the mid to late ninties, and it feels as wearable if not moreso than some of my newer pieces.

The vast majority are over priced. What we need is a thread that talks about designers that price their things decently.

BALMAIN is the most overpriced designer label......here's just a small sampling from this season and last season

47063_fr_l.jpg

this microdress, made of 100% LYCRA spandex jersey and covered in sequins (the fabric comes on bolts already pre-sequined) $13,395

47064_fr_l.jpg

lycra strapless harem jumpsuit with swarovski hotfix (aka stick-on) crystals $11,255

BALM09qVelvJa1.jpg

100% cotton velveteen jacket with messy tulle and crystal trim (this trim comes premade on rolls, you just snip to the desired length and sew it on--by hand though ) $8,540

this ruched tacked silk and ripped mesh minidress with crystals was about $23,500

00300m.jpg

metal mesh and ruched tacked silk, about $24,000...without the belt (which is an extra $2000)

00100m.jpg

these jeans covered in studded patches were about $9000 and the silk spaghetti strap camisole under the jacket was about $800

100% cotton baby rib racerback tank with studs and crystals $1740

Phillip Lim is like the most decent priced designer ever. I still can't afford it but once I graduate college I'm sure it won't be that hard.

Totally agree that Balmain's totally overpriced. I don't understand why?!

I think I read somewhere, maybe in a records book, that Balmain was the most expensive luxury brand. The average t-shirt costs somewhere in the late 3 figures and a bunch of other stats I don't remember.
