NEW YORK, February 8, 2007 – "I'm German. I like things to be on time," rasped Kai Kühne, trying to explain that he was as frustrated as everyone else by the late, late start (an hour and twenty minutes, to be precise) of today's show. It wasn't just the lapse in Prussian punctuality that made it clear Kühne is experiencing some growing pains. He is by his own admission still recovering from his difficult divorce from As Four, now rechristened Threeasfour, three seasons ago. And, as of this week, he also finds himself in the vulnerable circumstance of being between publicists.

Kühne described his collection, at times emotionally, as a coming to terms with that past and with growing up. True to his word, it did come across as his most mature to date. He lightened up his ornate "German origami" technique and produced chic Breakfast at Tiffany's dresses and an elegant shantung evening coat. Furs, in collaboration with Saga, boosted the luxury level.

Of course, this being the occasionally outrageous Kai, it wasn't all serious. A sculpted cable-knit jumpsuit and a coat crafted entirely from striped Hudson Bay blankets provided a dollop of wit. And as an apt exclamation mark for a designer who says he aspires to show at the Haute Couture in Paris one day, he closed today's slightly fraught proceedings with a bride in an ivory cotton-and-silk column striped with marabou.

I actually like some of the simpler pieces, except for the furs and a few pretty weird pieces, like the cable knit pantsuit.

Seems EXTREMELY amateur I hate to say. Where is the consistency? The cutting is terrible and the sewing even worse. The hotel hallway doesn't do the collection any favors- it makes it seem like hooker clothing. What is that thug doing in the show?
I'm very surprised SAGA would have collaborated with him.
At least with As Four, the message was clear. This just seems schizophrenic teetering on delerium.

 :yuk:  The only piece I like is the dress with the asymmetrical neck (on the girl with the hat in #4)

What the hell happened? :(

This is just...obscene.

i'm concur with zazie, the simpler things are actually pretty redeemable. the rest is just awful...and the fur...is just disgusting. trashy and looks too much like something J.Lo would don,the way he executed them.

overall,i dunno what's going on with him,but if he deems designing as his therapy then he needs try something else because this is not worthy. it's too all over the place,mad....schizo Bidwell said rightly.

feel the same way..terrible presentation

Uh. Well. It could use some work, I guess? The first few pieces were nice, but it gradually rolled downhill.

well, on Diane P's site she said she went to visit him and preview the collection, and there was almost nothing there..........
which would seem to suggest that it was one in a hurry.........
some of the pices are nice eg. the black dress in post #2 an the black assymetric suit with yellow lining.......... others are really bad

I don't get it, it's all so...... ugly. Brownie points for using a plus-size model though ^_^

Second row, center photo - is it for New Year's Eve?
