I used to nibble on them when I was little... madly.

Now, my thumb nails skew towards the outside (when you at the front of my hand) because of how I'd chew the nail on the inside side.

Does anyone still sport this icky habit?
And like changing a part in your hair, is there a way to get nails to grow normally?

(Merge/delete if necessary.)

I've been biting my nails since I was born basically ..
Mine don't grow in a normal shape, and they break very easily (even though I make attempts to grow them, the edges always crack)
But the worst thing is the skin around the outside, it's horrible.
I'm so ashamed of my nails that I can't even apply for SA jobs (have you SEEN people working as SAs? Perfect long killer nails)
I feel your pain.

I have always been a nail biter...
as long as I can remeber.
I hate it, my bf hates it and it drives my boss nuts so I decided to quit cold turkey.
I did very well for almost 2 weeks but I realized long nails drive me crazy so I ended up cutting them- I guess that is better than biting.

I am waiting for them to grow back so I can paint them a very pretty red.

Has anyone tried that nail polish that tastes bad to get you to stop biting?

I realized that this sounds a bit iffy...

I meant like when you have to train your hair to stick to a certain part,
is there a way to train your nails to start growing better/stronger?

*shyly raising hand* I want to stop, but I can't!

I used to bite my nails, but I didn't start until I was about second grade, and I slowly quite by the time I was a high school freshman. I just decided to quit, didn't think too much about it, but it definitely wasn't a quick change. I don't think my habit did any lasting damage, however one of my nails is skewed a bit, but only because my mom forced me to write a lot when I was young (a homework regimen...we're very academic in my family I guess). That nail has morphed slowly back into a normal shape over the years, but it's still a little bit funny looking.

I know one of my friends takes calcium supplements to counterbalance the damage nail polish can do (nail polish makes my nails brittle and breakable, and I'm too lazy to take vitamins, so I just don't paint mine). Maybe that could help anyone recovering from a long bout of nail biting.

Same, my left ring finger where my pencil rests damaged that finger. I can't exactly change the way I write, so I guess it'll have to do.

But thank you for your suggestions! :woot:
