Nail Polish #2

^That is true...I need two coats of Mademoiselle to get that pinky nude tint on my nails. I LOVE IT! It's a joy to apply.

I just got Blue My Mind from H&M...LOVE it! I've been wanting it for so long. I think it's really similar to Lapis of Luxury, though a bit brighter.

That is a gorgeous color!:woot: Lapis looks a little purple compared to blue my mind.

Best named collection EVER!
Rescue Beauty Lounge “The Real Housewives Of The Tudor Dynasty” Swatches & Review Posted on July 23, 2010

THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF THE TUDOR DYNASTY INSPIRE A BROCADE-HUED NAIL POLISH COLLECTION FROM RESCUE BEAUTY. The opulent fabrics, quiet luxury and return of ladylike fashions brought to mind the British Royal family to Rescue Beauty Lounge’s Ji Baek. No, not the current resident of Buckingham Palace but the colorful (and often short-lived) wives of Henry the VIII.
Known for her flawless, full-coverage cremes, for Fall 2010 Ji Baek infused opulent multi-dimensional shimmer with rich, heavily pigmented hues. The result, a collection worthy of even the most royal of fingertips.
I’m personally not well schooled on the history of The House of Tudor, outside of my love for the Showtime series. Though given the popularity of The Tudors and recent series finale, this collection, with its strong fashion driven edge, is very timely.

“I fell in love with the Tudor dynasty in the novel Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel,” says Baek. “The more I learned of the queens’ wardrobes—the layers of embroidery, embellishments of pearls and fur and rich jewel toned fabrics—the more I saw a parallel with what’s going on in fashion this fall.”
Formula and Application: RBL is a 4-Free brand. 3-Free used to be the thing but now with so many people asking about Formaldehyde Resin as well, 4-Free really is the new 3-Free. The brush is round, of average length and on the thicker side. It’s a bit more flexible than most which makes application a breeze for me.
As one would expect from a Rescue polish, this collection is heavily pigmented. With the exception of Jane, the polishes all applied perfectly in two coats. I used three coats of Jane though I apply my polish thin so you may be able to get away with two. Even though it took three coats, I was pleased to find that it applied smooth with no streaks in spite of being such a light color.
FYI: I typically don’t wear top coat in my swatch pics but at Ji’s suggestion I did with these. All swatches are shown with a coat of CND Super Shiney.
Anne, named for Anne Boleyn, is a grayed olive green packed with old gold and bright pink shimmer. The pink adds an unusual twist and in person it’s even more prominent. As you can see in the bottle pic above, the gold shimmer really captures the light but indoors it just adds a glow allowing the green come through.

Catherine, named for Catherine of Aragon, is a smokey royal purple infused with pewter, bright blue and fuchsia shimmer. On me, the shimmer isn’t as prominent in Catherine as it is in Anne. It could be that my skin picks up the gold shimmer more than the pewter.

Catherine H, named for Catherine Howard, is described by Ji as a Wedgewood blue. To me, it’s that sky before a storm type of blue that I love. The shimmer in this one is a combination of the old gold from Anne with the bright blue and fuchsia from Catherine. Though what’s odd is that I don’t really see the colors unless I’m in bright sunlight. Indoors it’s almost like the polish has water spots which is very interesting and unique.

Jane, named for Jane Seymour, is an oyster hued creme with an injection of yellow gold, pale pink and light green shimmer. The color is described as having lavender shimmer but I don’t see it. Though part of the reason for that could be that the shimmer is less apparent in Jane than the other three polishes. It’s really subtle, almost unnoticeable to the casual observer.

Bottom Line: My hands down favorite is Anne but not just because it’s a green. The shimmer is really unique and stands out the best in this polish. The Catherines are a close second though. Green, purple and blue are my favorite nail colors (in that order) so it’s no surprise that I’m totally enamored with all three of them. If I had to choose between those two… who am I kidding, I wouldn’t!
Now I’m not a huge neutrals fan though they are pretty prominent for Fall so I see Jane selling well. Finding a light colored creme with a bit of uniqueness that applies well is hard combo to come across so if that’s what you’re looking for, try Jane.
The Real Housewives of The Tudor Dynasty Fall collection from Rescue Beauty Lounge will go on pre-sale soon. I don’t have exact dates yet as Ji is still figuring that out herself. I will be sure to update you once they go on sale. Rescue polishes retail for $18/ea for a .4oz bottle. Shipping is free on order over $100 ($200 for international).

The worst named collection ever! It might even beat out OPI for awful naming, and that takes some doing :judge:

Jane is a great colour though

Someone must be loving The Tudors ^_^

I really like Jane too.

So I got the limited edition of Revlon's Minted. It's the perfect true mint color imo. Not to dark..Such a pretty color. But the application is a bit annoying though.

It's a bit darker in the picture than in real life but I just love and want Revlon's Gray Suede!

Wondering How To Work YSL Couture Tips?

So, my nails are in severe rehab to get them into perfect condition to wear this fabulous look, but while I'm completely confident that I'll be able to paint my left hand with my right, the little question of how I'll manage the other way round keeps popping into my head. So, thanks to the fabulous nail technician Jenny Longworth, when the Couture collection launches on the 21st August, I'll be prepared (although I'm still going to invest in some paper half moons just in case....).

How to get the Perfect YSL Couture Manicure.

1. Before polishing prep the nail by "squeaking". Using a cotton pad and polish remover, wipe over the surface of the nail, being sure to get down the side walls and under the free edge of the nail. This will remove any naturally occurring oils from the nail plate, ensuring a clean surface for the polish to adhere to.

2. Always begin with a base coat. Again this will create an ideal surface for the polish to grip to, helping to prevent from staining and chipping. YSL's La Laque base, top and care coat will do just this and is a super versitile product, illiminating the need to carry a seperate top coat.

3. When applying your first coat of colour, wipe any excess of one side of the brush when removing from the neck of the bottle. This will ensure there is just the right amont of polish on the brush so that you don't flood the nail. Apply the first coat by pushing down and back onto the centre of the nail, getting as close to the cuticle as possible without touching the skin. Try to paint the nail in 3 strokes, one down the centre and one down each side. YSL's flat, panoramic brush will adapt to the contour of your nail helping to give you a perfect finish. After painting all 10 fingers, repeat this process again as 2 coats of polish will ensure an even coverage of colour.

4. When painting your tip, use the angled brush in one horizontal motion across the free edge of the nail. Doing this in one motion will give you a cleaner, neater line for the tip. Repeat this process twice on all fingers, again to get a bolder finish with your colour. Don't worry at this stage about excess polish on the finger tips as this can be cleaned up later.

5. Using a cotton bud soaked in some remover go around the edge of the fingers to clean up any of the excess polish. At this stage I like to use a brush (an old lip brush is perfect) dipped in some remover to go around the cuticle area and create a clean line at the base of the polish.

6. Finally, finish with a coat of La Laque base, top and care, "floating" this over the polish. This means not putting too much pressure on the brush so as not to drag and spoil the design. Finish by running the top coat over the tip of the free edge to cap and seal in the polish. This is crucial for prevention of chips and you will really see the difference in wear of your polish.

Remember the Couture Manicure is all about experimantation so don't be afraid to play about with colour combinations and designs. Try using the angled brush to create assymetic tips, bare half moons, and alternative smile lines. The Couture Manicure is all about creating an infinity of possible looks so have fun with it!

These are pretty great tips IMO...I never thought of the last part :ninja:

I love the lip brush tip, and the last part too ... i want to go and paint my nails just to see how that works lol.

i always heard ysl nail polish was bad though ... is it?

Are Essie polishes widely available in Paris, and if so where? I'm visiting in a couple of weeks and thought that there was no point ordering online if I can just pick it up there

Hope it's not too late but you can definitely get Essie polishes at "Manicurist" venues - they have a nail bar in Printemps beauty which has a huge range of colours and top/base coats etc. It's definitely much bigger range than I've seen in the UK but it may also be more expensive as makeup generally is in Paris, I think I paid about 17 euros for Trillionails. They also have Orly there which we don't have in UK.

www.manucurist.com is the website to see their different locations.

Guys what do you think about white nail polish. I recently bought one
I saw Kim Kardashian with it and was totally in love

I think white nail polish reminds me of those kids at school who coloured their nails in with tippex.

I love white nail polish on the models but i hate how it looks on myself

At the moment i'm in love with Orly Country Club Khaki

I like white nail polish, but only if it has some kind of shimmer.. otherwise, I just find that it looks like liquid paper..

I love white polish. I think it's great when worn with black polish to create cool b & w designs on nails.
