Nancy Spungen

Have you read "And I don't want to live this life anymore" by Deborah Spungen? It's sad. Nancy was a mentally ill person.

I read the book, written by her mother. It was melancholy to read, to say the least. Gary Oldman as Sid Vicious in the movie of their life is terrific.

A fashion icon for whom? I don't mean to be rude, but she's not an icon at all. She certainly was not fashionable in any way; she was a slob - stuffing her short, squat body into leather mini-skirts, bustiers and fishnet hose.

I read her mother's book, and it is very good; but it got to the point where Nancy ran that entire family, and it was sickening. Yes, she was mentally ill, but her family catered to her.

Nancy is definitely pretty 'iconic'; for all the wrong reasons.. Her life was a waste. I read her mother's book, too, and it was very sad. I'm sure she could have had a more worthwhile existance but for obvious reasons that didn't happen.

I agree with everything you said. Her fashion sense was not any different from what other were wearing at that time. In fact, she looked better before she bleached her hair and went punk.

^^ at the time though she was :ninja:

According to the books I've read, she was not. No one could stand her - read John Lydon's autobiography - I highly recommend it. Read the comments from Chrissie Hynde and everyone else that was around her. No one looked up to Nancy - not even Sex Pistols' fans.

Such a sad, tragic life. Thanks for mentioning the book. This is the first I have heard of it, and now I must read it. Most of what I have known about Nancy came from news articles and the film. I am looking forward to reading this book.

Thanks for posting those, LetThemEatCake!
Her accent is insane in those interviews, the American accent sounds SO American and the English accent sounds SO English.
Definitely get the Courtney Love vibe, but in a way she seems rather maternal with him.

Wow! They are so tragic in these interviews. Courtney Love had a small role in the film "Sid and Nancy". I wonder if she purposely based her persona in the 1990s on Nancy? The similarities are almost too strong to be coincidental.
