Nancy Spungen

Alex Cox, who directed "Sid & Nancy" created the part of a fictional friend, Gretchen, just for Courtney. Courtney originally went out for the part of Nancy, and like she mentions later in interviews, "Thank GOD I didnt get that part."
Many people have said that Courtney wanted her and Kurt to be the next John and Yoko, Sid and Nancy...so i think that part of what you said is definitely true, prsgl.

 I love her in those videos. Im sorry, but if I were with a hot mess like Sid (or Kurt) I would be easily annoyed too.

I'm so happy here's a thread for nancy. For me she is an icon. in every way. The way she looked after Sid, the way she was, dressed, everything, it's so unbearably cool for me! Ok, not the drugs, that was horrible. She must have been very strong person for putting up with sid really. really sad it ended so quickly.

i don't think nancy is an icon in any way, but she definetely influenced fashion, not because she had a sense of style, but because she was part of the punk rock scene. if you see collections inspired by the punk rock, you'll definetely see nancy in the clothes

i read the book her mother wrote too, and it's such a sad book. nancy had such a terrible life

I also think that everybody here ( including me) can't really say what was she like or stuff like that. Has anybody read a book called " pleas kill me" , written by legs mcneil and..someone(don't remember). yes there was written that she wasn't the most perfect person in the world, but also that she was a good person. She was maybe a bit fool, she didn't understand when people didn't like her, because noone would tell her thing to her face. She WAS mentally ill, and nobody helped her. She was alone through it all, 'til she met sid. thank god for that.

from youtube:
"She had an IQ of 160 and was tested at age 3 to be in the 7th grade level."

again, so sad she was mentally ill. so so sad

Agree with everything written here; Nancy wasn't an icon to me, but, as catrinaoverhere shows, some people still identify with her.

She was 20 years old when she died. And she had a genius level IQ. That's so terrible.
