Dutch teenage stunner Naomi Nijboer is one of the newest models on the block and is commanding countless double takes wherever she struts. With her attitude and bone structure, there can only be good things in store for this girl. Discovered while at a model camp in her native homeland of the Netherlands, she found herself promptly scooped up by agencies from both sides of the Atlantic before making her editorial debut for Vogue Netherlands. A teenage dream was born. Before being propelled in the stratosphere, Naomi visited i-D photographer Piczo at home for an exclusive shoot that captures the grungy tomboyish aesthetic down to a (well loved Harley Davidson) T. With minimal make up, Naomi’s natural beauty shines through. Keep your eyes peeled for this girl, as something tells us you will be seeing a lot more of her in 2013.
How did you get scouted? I signed myself in for the ModelCamp which my mother agency in The Netherlands organises. At the camp I got scouted by agencies from Paris and NY. Fresh Model Management started to represent me.
What’s your favourite thing about the Netherlands? That I feel safe and that everyone respects each other. I also love that we have ‘Drop’ (Drop is a kind of candy, and it tastes so good!). It’s typical Dutch.
What song would be the soundtrack to your life? I don’t have a favourite song. I’m a big music lover, and I listen to many different kinds of music. So I don’t have one specific soundtrack to my life, but I really like to listen to ‘The Passenger’ when I go to bed.
What’s your party tip? Drink water. You don’t get wasted, you remember the party and you don’t feel bad the next morning.
What makes you smile? A lot of things can make me smile. I’ve come to realise that I have to enjoy the little things in life. My family and my dog make me smile the most. And shopping makes me really happy, especially that feeling after I’ve bought something.
Are you a rebellious teenager? No. In fact, I’m a really calm and sweet daughter, haha.
Are you in love? No, unfortunately I haven’t found my Mister Perfect yet.
How do you define beauty? I think beauty is something you can’t define. Everyone is beautiful in their own way. Of course some people can be ‘prettier’ than others. But I really think that you have to be yourself and believe in yourself. A good personality is part of your beauty.
How do you feel when you look in the mirror? When I look in the mirror I see a girl who is satisfied with herself and who respects herself. I used to be very insecure but since I started modelling I’ve realised that I’m ‘beautiful’ in my own way and that I’m good enough as I am. So yeah I’m very happy now with myself and I know that I’m unique.
Did you make any New Year’s Resolutions? To enjoy my life to the fullest and to not give up until I have reached my goal. (And I also hope to walk a Fashion week next year).
Who inspires you? My mum inspires me, she’s such a strong person and she always knows how to cheer me up. But both of my parents are amazing, and I have learned a lot from them.
