Natural & Household Beauty Recipes

I use baking soda to lighten up dark marks. I don't think it works for sensitive skin and may cause irritaion.

i was just wondering if any of you know a good mask to make for every day use?
something that's not too strong and that won't dry out my skin but will still help my skin at the same time.
thanks

anyone have any really good natural ways to get rid of bags under eyes?

I know getting more sleep is on way, but I've heard of many things.

I have a really good article that i found on http://msn.bolsademulher.com/
It's brazilian, so i'm gonna translate it for ya

Granny's Recipes > myths and truths

Exfoliating:
Talking about exfoliation, the physiotherapist dermato-functional Amneris Ribeiro, of TA3 Studio Hair Design, explains that the sugar, for containing grains, can give results. But warning: depending on the pressure, can injure the skin layers. "So prefer oat flakes with honey, which is more tender," suggests.

The dermatologist Marcelo Bellini is one that approves households exfoliation. He recommends mixing sea salt (fine) to the liquid soap and exfoliate with gentle pressure, the face and body twice a week.

Fatima Pazos agrees that sugar can help. And gave the recipe: for a exfoliating mask, mix a spoon of honey and three of oat flakes. Pass on the skin in upward circular movements. This mask regulates the pH of the skin, making it more homogeneous and removing spots and pimples. Use twice a week. (personal note: IT REALLY woks!)

Deodorant

The lime used in the armpits gets rid of the stink? We must care. Bellini notes that the home recipes with the citric, if used in sunlight, can result in irritation and spots called Phytophotodermatitis. "Even washing the skin can leave residues," says the professional. And burn the skin. Better not risk it.

Instead of lemon, Amneris suggests that sodium bicarbonate, easily found in pharmacies and supermarkets. "Take a pinch of bicarbonate and moisten till it forms a sort of paste. Apply it in the armpits and your problem will be solved immediately," promises the specialist. (personal note: i don't have such problem, but i read the same recipe in a couple magazines, so I guess it really works)

Bags under eyes

And the famous cucumber for eyebags? Myth or truth? Before taking the course, explains that the eyebags Amneris is a change in the tissues that can lead to fluid retention and also darken the region. According to her, the cucumbers give a sense of refrescância. But the clearance requires the help of a dermatologist or a good corrective.
A good alternative is the tea of chamomile, which also causes local vasoconstriction. Dr. Bellini explains how to: "Take the bag of chamomile tea. Instead of throwing it out, put in the freezer. To the decongestant effect and soothing, place the bag directly under the eyes," reveals.
Besides the iced chamomile, another tip to alleviate the eyebags is to put a small ice rolled in a little cloth on them, only for five minutes. The trick helps blood circulation.

Cinderella Skin

To a "Cinderella" effect, one more homemade recipe: apply egg white across face with brush and leave it for 30 minutes. "Gives a nice tensor effect, ideal for before of parties or to take the fatigue-feel away." Amneris also suggests a mask of honey, which contributes to the facial and body hydration.
To moisturize, Fatima has a great homemade recipe. Take a egg white beated, a tablespoon of oats and a cup of honey. Mix everything and apply on clean skin. Leave until dry. Can also be added fruits (except citrus) in this recipe, as papaya, kiwi and strawberry.
If your skin is oily, the ideal mask consists in a tablespoon of cucumber, a teaspoon of honey and a tablespoon of Brewer's yeast. Beat all adding saline solution to dissolve the mixture. This recipe is also indicated for treatment of pimples and skin with acne.

Acne Remedies
Garlic is known for its anti bacterial properties and makes an excellent acne treatment. Press some garlic into a paste and leave it on your acne and pimples for 15 minutes then rinse off. Another solution is mashed-up honey and apple, applied individually to pimples. Also, try dabbing some tea tree oil on the pimple to dry it out and kill any bacteria.

There are some excellent natural facemask treatments for acne. Try applying a layer of ripe tomato pulp, cooked oatmeal or egg yolk to your face and letting it dry.

Finally, fruits are natural acid exfoliants and can help to get rid of your acne scars. Applying a puree of pineapple for 15 minutes will both freshen you up and reduce the impact of acne marks. Another great solution is lemon juice, but be careful as it can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight.

Dry Skin Remedies
- Dry skin on feet and hands
Apply Vaseline, baby oil or olive oil to the affected area before bedtime, then wear socks or gloves all night.

- Dry face
1. Almond oil makes a great primer before foundation because it's quickly absorbed. I use it as a night moisturizer.
2. Make a mash of banana and leave on your face for 20 minutes.
3. Mayonnaise is not only a great hydration treatment for your hair, it works wonders as a face mask too.

Facemask Tips
A good facemask will firm and tone your skin, minimizing pores and exfoliating off dead skin so the fresh skin beneath is revealed. Here's a natural and effective facemask recipe:

1 mashed avocado
1 cooked and mashed carrot
1/2 cup cream
1 beaten egg
3 tablespoons of honey

Exfoliating Tips
Ground coffee is just as good an exfoliant as many expensive products. All you need is a quarter cup of ground coffee mixed with a tablespoon of salt.

To make the coffee even more effective, brew a cup first, then use the brewed coffee! Remember to use it within 20 minutes though, because oxidisation after that point will make the coffee less effective.

---------------------------

based on that I did a mask consisting of mashed garlic, honey, olive oil, brown sugar and ground coffe. It was really great. I'll definitely do it again. If anyone is interested I can tell you the measurements .

I just made a face mask of used coffee grounds mixed with a little milk and a teaspoon of honey. Left it on for around 20 mins then washed it off with warm water...its left my skin looking quite clear with a glow

Lovely..So many good tips. I've always heard milk and honey are one of the best combinations. Reading all these posts, there is so many ways to use those.

Oh my gosh- I am so in love with this thread! I have so many different beauty recipes that I've written down after going through this thread- I can't wait to try them all out!

One remedy that I use is apple cider vinegar. You can water it down a bit and then put it on your face- leave it on for a few mins then wash it off. It really clears up any sort of acne without being to harsh (I have sensitive skin and it works really well for me). Also you can use it in your hair to make it shine. Although just as a warning- it does smell a little funny so as a suggestion I would just use it at night so it has time to wear off.

^I do a vinegar rinse to clear buildup in my hair once a month  works the same as a clarifying shampoo, and so much cheaper!

Also, I'm sure everyone knows about this one, but it does have to be said. I swear by vasline. I use it for everything as a moisturizer, making my face look dewy, getting rid of acne, lipgloss, keeping my eyebrows looking nice, under my eyeshadow to give it a bit of shine, ect. It is amazing how this product can be used for beauty products.

^yea i use it on my elbows and knees, makes them super soft. i just find it so gross when i see these people with cracked, dry elbows.

I have a moderately oily T-zone, and I always dab a damp tea bag on all my trouble spots, and my skin is completely matte the entire rest of the day, no frills.
