Former model, now photographer
Photographer & Art Director
Nicole' Maddox Grayson was born in Mainz, Germany, 1971. She often jokes that she "grew up dirt-poor and had a lot of fun anyway-- washing cars, pumping gas, caring for the elderly, waitressing, bartending, and housekeeping." She notes being fired from her housekeeping job because she was too obsessive and never finished. Her favorite pre-fashion job was training horses.
In 1991 she entered Goethe University for Law in Frankfurt. In her second year she was "discovered" as a model. Fashion made her an offer she couldn't refuse which landed her on the cover of nearly every major fashion magazine and in countless editorials and campaigns. Click on "Ex-Fashion Model" link below.
Nicole' did not find modeling entirely fulfilling. However it provided for "a learning experience working with great talent". "I was always more interested in being the artist and than image. Modeling and every other job was just a means to being a photographer and art director".
"There's a stereotype that models can't do anything else-- at one time they used to say this about women. I focus only on creating original concepts and stealing as much talent as possible".
The artist's photographs are published frequently by high quality publications that allow for greater creativity including: Black+White, Egg, Ego Miami, Highlights, Neo2, Noise, Oyster, Vellum, and Zink, and many others. Nicole's art direction has been instrumental in launching magazines such a Vellum where she was Art Director and Photo Editor at conception.
Nicole' Maddox Grayson lives in SoHo, NYC and is married to artist Neil Grayson with whom she has a son Maddox Luke Grayson. She is Photography Curator of Dactyl Foundation, NYC www.dactyl.org
