NICOLE RICHIE'S distributor, Majestic Mills, is suing LA-based boutique Kitson after the store allegedly bought £156,029-worth of Winter Kate merchandise without paying for it.
However, Kitson argues that a large proportion of money owed relates to apparel it couldn't sell which is sitting in its warehouse waiting to be sent back to Richie's distributor.
"We are very cautious with celebrity lines since we have learned from the mistakes of celebrity lines past such as Victoria Beckham's dVb and Lauren Conrad's Lauren Conrad Collection. Not every movie will be a blockbuster - even if it looks great on paper, it takes hard work and great retail partnerships to make these celebrity clothing lines blockbusters," Dean Khial, Kitson's director of operations, tells WWD.
Kitson plans to countersue for breach of contract.
