NY design duo who do a lot of deconstructed cotton jersey pieces with braiding, knots, beads and a gothic edge....

Oh I'm glad she's finally getting some recognition. O&S is designed by Liz Olko, who also works at Seven New York as a salesgirl. She used to work for Daryl K. She started this line a couple years ago and I think still works on it out of her apartment. Her mother even pitches in on the sewing. The clothes are pretty basic, but have a nice design element to them at the same time. The line is a HUGE seller at Seven, because it's thoughtfully-priced but still interesting and clever. And, naturally, it's very big in Japan.

As an aside, Obesity & Speed is a reference to an old Huggy Bear song. I know some people find it offensive but it's merely taken from a Huggy lyric.

While a find a lot of this quite nice it sort of strikes me as something that someone would make while in fashion design school. I just feel that the design is a bit loose and not quite precise enough or finished. I'm not sure if this makes sense to anyone else but those are my thoughts.

I agree with you Meg,
She should do less models, but work out the proportions more, especially sinc shes working with elements that we have seen before, white n black, coton jersey, skull prints, doodle style graphics, chain and pendant incorporation.

I love all of these elements, but to make them yours you must reinterpret them, wich she did a little, but i still needs a little extra to take it out of the fashion student feel.

Good job though, breaking in a japanese market is BIG..=)

i agree with meg...and sayan...

this is the kind of stuff that sets me on a rant...
it's only cotton knit...basically t-shirts and sweatshirts...
the fabric costs next to nothing...to sell it for $300 when i could cut up a t-shirt and make it myself...(and HAVE done)...that's just annoying to me...
expecially when it looks this crude and unfinished...

i love knitwear...it can be draped beautifully...but this looks completely amateurish to me...

thx for the pics anaisanais and for the info metal...

Thanks anaisanais....

Yeah,I like some of the stuff she's done. I like the women's stuff better though. Wasn't it a duo at one point,Metal? I remember seeing the label featured in V a couple years ago and it looked pretty interesting to me. Those sweatshirt's with the skull motif made out of ragged lace really caught my eye.

Is the title some kind of reference to Karl Lagerfeld's dieting methods...

It's a duo, Scott. But I still refer to the label as 'her' because I only really know Liz and not the other guy. And I think that when the label originally started out, it was just her. Josh (who I think is her boyfriend) also works at Seven.

I agree with softgrey and Meg that the design element is basic and amateur. But I don't think there's any pretense here. She's not trying to be Chanel Haute Couture and that's reflected in the materials and the 'undone' craftmanship. It's just a fun, easy little line of basics--nothing more. And I don't think the prices are astronomical ($110 for t-shirts usually, $300 for dresses). It's a tad overpriced but not in the way that Dior Homme's $8000 cotton coats are.

^ I do think it is overpriced, and arrogantly so.

I see the unfinished look of this as something intentionally raw for the demographic she is selling to...so that makes sense to me. I would never wear this stuff now, but when I was a lot younger, perhaps it would have been desireable to me. But thats just it -- at that age, and with those "raw" style preferences, a large price tag is kind of ridiculous to me...like ...hey pay 110 buck for this T-shirt and you'll be a cool anti-mainstream individual. Who is controlling who?

I wish them luck...anyway...

I like it as well, but I think I could make it myself without too much work.

I love Obesity&Speed:heart:

I think most of is reasonably priced, swetshirts are 100-200, some of the mini dresses are like 150. I wouldn't pay 100+ for their T shirts though.

Some nice elements but most of it looks like amateur work, especially the hooded cotton tops.
