Very sad how some employees judge people by their appearance when I doubt they could even afford some of the items in their own store.

That's what I was thinking. I mean who are they, really, they just work there it's not like they designed that stuff. At least she was there to shop.

They make in a year what Oprah makes in 30 minutes. That is why I hate snobby sales people. They are there to SERVE. Not to exclude people.

From my experience it is worse in Europe than in the United States.

Nicest- The nicest employees EVER work at D&G Bal Harbour
Worst- The worst employees work at Prada Zurich

I find it depends on the store. The people at Celine in europe are very friendly as are teh ones in New York.

Both Gucci boutiques in New York I have issues with because tehy're a bit snob. Although there is one sales woman named Theresa at the Gucci on Madison who is an absolute sweetheart. She treats everyone very nicely and she's pretty down to earth.

In Europe I've never had any problems they are always very polite. Although in Cannes and Monaco during the summer they often check who is at the door before they buz tehm in. Some people do get turned away.

I'd freak if it were to ever happen to me. :innocent:

I have never had a nice experience at ANY Gucci boutique. :yuk: We actually got in a arguement with an employee who forgot about us and started taking care of another person. :o BTW- The other person was Jennifer Lopez...

Versace in New York also has the best sales people ever. One guy in particular, I can't remember his name nearly had me on the floor laughing at his stories from the gay clubs.

Him and his co-worker would have never done that to Oprah in a million years! :ninja:

If this is true....

They should let ANYONE enter their store.

Exactly!!! Also the comment about them having problems with North Africans is absurd. So they pertain these supposed 'problems' to every 'North African' that enters their store?. How ignorant. Also the lame excuse of 'she didn't have her hair done' is another insult. Oprah nor anyone else has to be dressed to the 00's everytime they step outside, hell some people like to be comfortable in just sweats when they go shopping.

Ugh!! What a bunch of prejudice ignoramuses.

Lastly have these people ever seen Pretty Woman or Selena? The scenario in both movies when Julia Roberts character & Jennifer Lopez's character were basically given the brush off in some sort of way due to sales personnel
judging them on the way that they look as oppose to just letting them be.

What a shame.

Lindsay does have a birkin, just wanted to add.
How racist, good thing i hate hermes to begin with.

If Hermes wants to bar people then let them bar people, it's their shop. I've been thrown out of dozens of electronics stores for looking shifty and do I get a page six feature...

Anyone who wants to bar people out of their boutique should not have a boutique in the first place.
Whats next? Appointments to go shopping..?

there's a big difference between being thrown out of a store for looking shifty (though that's not acceptable either) and not being allowed in a store because of your race.

i hope oprah does something about this on her show.

^ Exactly. It's the "we've been having problems with North Africans" comment that really pisses me off. I hope Oprah does something about this!

well nobody actually said it WAS to do with her race.......

Prince you have a point there........a shop should be allowed to invite in or not invite in whoever they want......people often misunderstand that shops arent public rights......theyre privately owned

one thing is for sure, in France they DO think that africans whether african- american or african-french or just african, are bad for business or even worse, thieves. a black guy for instance can have loads of money and still not get a table at a restaurant or won t be allowed to get in clubs because he s...black. it can t get any sadder than this, but it s the truth. and french people are known for not hiding their racism, many times i heard people screaming racist things to africans or non-whites in general. how that is still happening in this day and age, is still a mistery to me.:yuk: :yuk: :yuk:
However, not all Hermes stores are the same, the one in Montreal has some really nice people working there and very helpful.
Celinechic- I love the people at Gucci in Ny. they were soooooooo nice

Uh yeah they did

"Don’t expect Oprah Winfrey to accessorize with Hermes bags any time soon. Spies in Paris report that, in a stunning display of ignorance … the Hermes store in (Paris) refused entry to the talk show queen. "Oprah didn't have her hair done," says a source. "When she tried the door, they refused her entry because they have been 'having a problem with North Africans' lately…'“

At a shop, they can t tell u no u can t come in, unless they come up with a very good reason they wouldn t let u in. even if they re privately owned anybody should be allowed inside.

Shops do not invite you to come in, you do so at your own will.
Maybe stores should put up signs at the entrance "No Black's, Hispanic's, Asian's allowed to enter"

Sorry acid, they said that they did not allow her entry because of problems they have been having with Northern Africans, and some other nonsense about her hair not being done.

WHATEVER...
IN all points they were wrong. They were stereotyping her.

*****

So what if they are privately owned - they are selling to the public. Private would be by appointment ONLY!- which was not the case.

Can't wait for OPRAH to tear them a new one.

Salespeople in Toronto boutiques are so nice. They let my raggedy-buttface self and my best friend in the stores even though I'm scared to go inside.

Nevertheless, the first thing I thought of when I saw the article was that the manager or whoever is of power in Hermes (which I pronounce Herr-mees) should quickly give Oprah the chance of going inside the store and letting her get everything she wants - for free. Eh?
