if the bags aren't on sale in NY you'll usually get them cheaper in Paris/Europe in general

Soo, generally all the Paris-based designers are slightly cheaper to buy them direct from Paris, if only because you don't have to pay the shipping and foreign conversion fee the foreign stores put on top of the price. There is also the Tax refund scheme for non-European tourists- i just got my refund last week from my July trip and got a refund of about $250 on a Chloe paddington, and about $75 on a Marc Jacobs patent wallet. Bought my Chanel in Australia and it was definitely a few hundred more than had i bought it in Paris. Hope that helps

im going to paris this saturday for one day and i am arriving very early, around 8 in the morning. i dont think the stores are going to be open.
Does anyone know how late they open and close on saturday?

Galeries LaFayette for example is open on Saturdays from 9.30-19.30

If you arrive on 8.00 AM at the CDG airport you will need 45min~1h to get into the city anyway

you're welcome if you look for particular shops just look for their websites [google], usually they should state the opening hours somewhere.

you guys this is impressing you know more stores than I do in my own town !! but I just want to say that you guys only mention the overpriced stores ! I understand that it is exciting to go to the Chanel or the Louis Vuitton stores but you can be sure that there are only tourists because there is 5% of people who can afford those stores ! concerning Le Bon marché it certainly is a great store but come on you can't really shop in that place unless you're really rich ! Le printemps is my favorite store because everything is just beautiful the openend a new sushi bar there is an entire floor for shoes but I can't afford all those stuff ! Anyway I just wanted to say that le bon marché le printemps and les galeries are all the same and they are great when you don't know about them but after several years you are looking for more small stores with less expensive brands ! I work in a store and the sales are generally from the 10th of January to middle of february ! I hope you guys will enjoy your stay in Paris it's a great city and I love living here !

caffeine, are you talking about something in specific or just in general? in general, i can't really imagine it being more expensive than in the states.. besides, you get your 12% tax refund because you're from outside of the european union...

Thanks Mettchen. I was talking about the Rive Gauche bag in particular. I haven't found an European website that carries that bag so It's very hard for me to compare the price at this point.

Caffeine, I'm actually going to Paris this week myself. I was asking about the Medium Muse and someone posted (on another forum) the following:

I know that a large is 945 euros before detaxe. The medium should be around 745. Hope this helps!

The problem is I suppose customs duties would apply on top of this price, still this seems about $200 cheaper than the US - not sure if VAT is also refundable for that amount.

thanks Salome. I think that if you get the medium you can avoid the tax at the custom - I think that the limit is $800 (forget about the currency though) and it sounded like many people jsut bring the items on plane without paying.....it's probably not legal though.

Parisians, it is probably OT, but do you mind recoommending a nice restaurant in the Latin quarter? we'll stay close to the Luxemberg Garden and we want to find a romantic restaurant to celebrate our anniversary
We hope to find an authentic Parisian restaurant (and I really LOVE Foie gras...hopefully the restaurant has it)...not stuffy...price range I guess entree 20-40 Euros are all fine. Any recommendations? TIA!

Caffeine, it's quite easy to find good restaurants just by looking around in that area but I'd especially recommend you La Petite Chaise. It's supposedly one of the oldest bistros in Paris (from 1680!) and they serve traditional French food.. from foie gras, snails and onion soup to crème brûlée.. they have it all, and the price isn't bad either..
