Well...at least it should sell, that's one possibility he could console himself with after churning yet another trollop collection.

The Designer: Paul Smith has built London’s most easily recognised international luxury fashion brand with un-paralleled energy. Born in Nottingham he opened a tiny shop there in 1970 and showed his first menswear collection in Paris in 1976. Today there are twelve different collections under the label spanning men’s and women’s wear plus accessories and fragrances. He wholesales to 35 countries, has 17 shops in the UK, stores in most international capitals and over 200 in Japan. He was knighted in 2001.

The Collections: The phrase ‘Classic with a twist ' was surely invented for his style which is based on all things indigenously Brit - the tailoring, pursuits, culture and eccentricities - which are then given a modern flip. His women’s collections are a mix of tailoring, print and a grown-up but relaxed glamour with a recognisable theme that threads its way gently through each collection.

The News: In August he added a new women’s perfume called Paul Smith Rose to his line-up of fragrances. This autumn he is opening a new UK store in Leeds.

Instant View: His flagship store is Westbourne House at 122 Kensington Park Road in London plus 17 other stores in the UK. He also has 102 shops in 35 countries across the world and over 250 shop-within-shops which are mainly in Japan.
