Personal Style Etc.

^^you can put together good looks from anywhere if you have the eye to find the right pieces...

i just wanted to say that azzedine alaia sandals are so much more comfortable than any other sandal i have ever worn...
i expected them to be better...but i am still astonished at just how MUCH better they are...
amazing...

My style,..geee
I wear a lot of black. It's very convenient; I can get dressed up very fast w/ out thinking of matching colours and not worry if I spill something on me. I also like navy a lot and my favorite colour combination is navy/black.
And I also wear boots w/ a heel. I want to be tall!
I usually don't have much time in the morning so I'm depending on clothes w/ a good fit and that are versatile.

I'm not so much into colours, but I'm fanatic about proportions and fit.

i like it...
cool, comfortable, functional...a bit sexy (boots!) ...
all very nice... sounds good!
:flower:

I used to wear all black a good 80% of the times and only dark colours when I was younger. But it got to the point where it was a bit more challenging to incorporate other colours and I was getting a bit bored with myself. Now I wear all black about 30% of the time. But now colour is not what bothers me any longer, so I don't pay attention to it that much.

all the belts went back...i decided to get rid of the things that need a belt rather than go through this continuous search...
i'm over it~!
...

it's amazing that you can get on skates but not on heels ...
:D

soooo...
i ordered 3 more belts...
:ninja:...
guess i wasn't so over it after all...

hopefully at least one will work this time...
:innocent:

I think I am having a bit of a personal style crisis at the moment. Going through a very difficult situation in life for the past four years that has allowed neither the time nor the money to think about clothes means I now find myself a little lost...starting from scratch more or less, as most of what I have is in need of replacement! A little daunting...

As for my style...I like clean, well tailored, structural items, nothing too flimsy or fussy or flowy. Interesting textures rather than prints (except subtle stripes), colors like white, black, light grey, beige, tan, olive and navy. I have always been drawn to military inspired things, double breasted coats/trench coats, equestrian boots, berets, pilot shirts, etc. Other things: little jackets, shirts with collars that frame the face well, soft sheer or chunky wool knits, worn tan leather, reptile leather, crisp cottons, interesting jewelry.

I don't know if that's saying much at all. ;)
A challenge for me I feel is how to add interest and avoid looking too plain and boring since I prefer very classic styles. There is also something about how I look that makes me easily look too prim and girly or too old and frumpy. Both of which I want to avoid now that I have just turned 30!

I also place much more emphasis on quality now that I am older (as most people seem to do as they age), and I am trying hard to resist running out to the nearest high street store to replace my wardrobe instantly, and rather want be a little bit more thoughtful about it and invest in some better quality pieces. But it's hard when I have almost nothing to work with!

^ have you checked out the French wardrobe thread?

possibly you need a pair of truly fabulous snakeskin shoes in which you cannot possibly be mistaken for prim, frumpy, etc. there seems to be a lot of snake available right now ... you might also like fish skin.

and glad you've emerged from a difficult time--been there

Thanks fashionista-ta
I'm having fun browsing tFS once again after several years hiatus. I can't believe it's more than ten years since I first became a member here!

Snakeskin is a great suggestion, I may have to be on the lookout for that! My favourite everyday bag is a black crocodile one and I love the polish that it gives my outfits, but snakeskin is a little bit more funky.

The French wardrobe thread seems right up my alley, I had a quick look but will check it out more in depth later. :)

they all went back---again...
and now i've ordered one more...
**you can't say i'm not determined~~~!

...

this time i tried a different approach...
ordered a double belt rather than one wide one...
let's see if it does the trick...

:D...

Softgrey: At least it is good to see that you are not settling for just 'okay' :P

Caramel: I think Fashionista-tas suggestion is a great starting point. Instantly made me think of the shoes belonging to a blogger with great style. The shoes are not frumpy in the least and a great and interesting basic. Of the top of my head I can't think of anything they would look bad with. (Maybe I am not a hard very thinker  )

Also, I think that the idea of building a quality wardrobe in Norway can be so difficult. At least where I live we pretty much only have a small handful of stores that do not sell high street/fast fashion clothing... But perhaps you live in a larger city than I do and have a greater selection.

^^i like those madewell flats...
but i guess they are not real snakeskin...but a snakeskin print...
it's so hard to find real snakeskin these days...
:(

well---
the weather is beginning to change and dressing is a bit tricky these days...
up and down...up and down...goes the weather...

Lanvin has various styles that are actual snakeskin ... I have some with just the snakeskin captoe, but there are all-snake styles as well (Michelle Obama has a metallic pair that she's worn a number of times). Recently I've seen a pair with teal highlights, a holographic ivory pair, purple captoe on black ... lots to choose from.

umm...
ok...thanks
those colours sound a bit

personally, i like natural snakeskin
python or black...
and i have trouble finding it these days at any pricepoint...
or if i do, i don't like the product design...

it's not a big deal though...i don't NEED snakeskin...
i just like it...
:p

i have a pair of patrick cox black snakeskin ankle boots from the 90's that i am thinking of resurrecting actually...
i figure, if i've already got something that i like better than what's in stores now, then i may as well wear it...
thinking of having a lug sole put on to give it an update...

I think snakeskin has become so rare that when people use "snakeskin" they actually mean faux snakeskin/snakeprint. When we really mean snakeskin we have to add "real" or "geniune" to be understood. Which is very odd when you think about it:huh:

If anyone do find "geniune" snakeskin flats in phyton, feel free to let me know (I love giving KarmaB)) I could definitly see them as a staple in my wardrobe:)

totally---
it's really weird to me...
no one ever talked about it or wrote articles about it or had any 'save the snakes' protests, as far as i know...
but it must be really expensive to use snake because it has all but disappeared from fashion...

i bet a lot of younger shoppers wouldn't even know the difference between them...

it's just so odd to me...
...

i've been keeping my eye out for ages, so i'll definitely let you know if i come across anything...
