Decoratively speaking, Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos wanted to imbue their resort collection with a sense of the antique: They rewound the old-school board-game motif they used for fall to ancient board games for this lineup’s jacquard patterns and intarsia knits. They also collaborated with the line of modern gladiator sandals Ancient Greek, shot their look book at the neolithic stone monument Avebury in the U.K. and presented the lineup to press and market in the chicly primitive, Axel Vervoordt-designed penthouse of The Greenwich Hotel.
Despite all that effort to give the clothes the essence of the Old World, the designers also wanted the collection to serve the needs of the modern resort customer who buys a new wardrobe for her midwinter holiday. Thus, there were intarsia knit jogging pants and oversize cardigan robes; off-the-shoulder poplin tops that would be perfect for vacation and dressed-up skirt separates and eveningwear that sported the peppy Peter Pilotto patterns in a vacationing-in-Santorini kind of way.
