NEW YORK, February 6, 2007 – Taking a cue, perhaps, from fellow Milanese designer Miuccia Prada, Alberta Ferretti has taken her second collection on the road. Where Prada chose Paris for Miu Miu, Ferretti settled on New York. Her reasoning? A growing celebrity following, increasing stateside sales, and, not least, because "it's an exciting city for fashion." Indeed, her Philosophy debut could have been lost among the week's 220 other shows, but thanks to a convenient location just a few windy blocks from the Narciso Rodriguez show, editors and buyers breezed in and out of her hassle-free installation all night.

What they saw was signature Ferretti: pretty, retro frocks, this season with a glam fifties vibe. Think tweedy skirtsuits and strapless, nipped-waist dresses in jewel-tone satins or brocades, with a smattering of schoolgirl pinafores and trapeze coats thrown in. By design, there was nothing new here, but Ferretti did play to what she called New York's modernity, with techno touches like floral and transparent laminates, the latter of which gave a boxy plaid jacket and A-line skirt a glossy sheen. Will Ferretti be back for more next season? Unlike some other newcomers, she has the money and the infrastructure behind her, so if she wants to compete for New York's attention, she can.

The jump to New York must have thrown her way off. This is awful compared to her spring collection.

No don't like it! I don't like the atmosphere of this show .. Usually I like something differernt at the catwalk but this is just looking cheap ( If I may say so ?). I agree with xmodel_citizen that the prints are hideous. So far I am not really impressed by any of the shows!

Did Alberta run out of money and she have to put this show??
she always do runway for Philosophy, why this kind of presentation??
boring, grey, the prints are hideous, and the palette of colours is just so wrong, maybe if you are 80 and live outside of fashion you can wear this

NY is booooooriiiiiiingggggggg!!!!!!
Can't wait for MILANOOOOO

i would like to seee that with my eyes... in real. because these prints look like damage on photos.
and the collection is really bad...

Love the shoes and that one leather coat. not much else... the prints are seriously lacking.

I agree on the shoes, they're nice. I hate the rest though. :ninja:

i think the prints are amzing. i thn its her way of interpreting the embellishment trend popping up for the fall. i love the silhouettes--so clean and retro. the color scheme is lovely. she made me fall in love with purple. the shoes are lovely. styling fits just so. this is one of my favorites so far. the fall is shaping up to be great in nyc.
