I've got such an obsessive compulsive relationship with my skin---I can't stand any kind of blemish on my face. I scratch at it until it looks even worse. Like a cut. A cut that's thinking about scarring. Any advice on how to stop this, or what I can do after I do it to speed up healing time?

Hmm, I do the same thing, I used to be much worse, I finally realized that unless someone has a microscope over you face standing one foot away, they can't see anything more than a spec. It's all in your head my dear!!!

yeah thats true i do de same thing and i dont even realize till i am doing it, the matter is be aware and stop doing

wear an oil based hand cream. you'll never want to touch your face.

I have the same habit but now when I'm bored I just play with my hair or read keep moving, I'm trying to do better.. Oh I've thought of the idea of wearing gloves like around the house or whatever:P haha now that just might work:lol:

Lol! So true. I pick spots/lumps that are so tiny because I gradually end up closer to the mirror! Then I realise every time it makes your face look worse with the red marks and I say to myself 'I'm never going to do that again...' A week later... :innocent:

Giving up this awful habit has been my New Year's resolution for probably three or four years now. Also manage my finances more effectively, get more exercise, etc. I'm still scratching at my skin and spending money like it's my job...

I used to do it also.. until the time I realized that when I ''forgot'' to look at the mirror and do it, my skin was WAy better than it was... Just remember that if you dont do it, it will go away in like 1 day instead of 1 week if you pick!

Any advice on what to do if I cannot resist? Does Neosporin help?

i was wondering the neosporin idea....i got ticked off yesterday and picked the hell out of this gianormous pimple on my forehead....i put some as soon as it stopped bleeding and it seemed to help.

Neosporin helped a couple of my zits heal one time. I was starting to develop one, and quickly put some on as soon as I noticed it. It definitely healed quicker. Of course, I think there soem some really effective creams/gels that you cna put on your blemishes to help them go away quickly.

I've stopped picking as much and my skin is getting alot better! It's so true if you pick at it then it turns a not so noticable pimple into a eyesore

You got it! :D
But its hard to understand because you see it as if it was really big and noticeable :(

i grew up picking at every single thing on my skin, especially mosquito bites, until they bled and bled and scarred. i have scars (pretty much all faded now) all over my body from doing this. i really freaked my parents out with it, and when i was around 10 or so my mom took me to a hypnotist to see if that would help. it sort of fixed that, but i started picking my cuticles and have been doing that ever since. my nails are a mess, but i'm not so bad about my skin anymore. i do it to my face too, but since i realise that people see that, it's easier not to make it ugly.

anyway, that's my long and rambling story about just one aspect of my OCD, i don't know what advice to give you because my impractical help didn't really help. you could take up knitting, which i've also done, or wear gloves at night, which i've also done, or start picking your cuticles, which is harmless in comparison.

wow, i really sound like a freak...but i'm not, and neither are you, and i'm really glad that someone else has had this problem because i really thought it was just me!

good luck though...i really hope something works out for you!

I pretty much do the same but I believe the solution would be getting rid of the stuff on my skin before I can even get to it. It encourages me to wash my face twice a day now and really taking care of myself. The less I see, the less I feel the impulse to pick at it.
