Feather Alert
Designers Indulge Their Nesting Instincts
June 3, 2004 – For many designers this season, inspiration came from the skies—literally. Donna Karan embroidered swooping birds at hip height on her evening dresses, while Proenza Schouler used pheasant feathers for a luxurious fashion lift. At Oscar de la Renta and Ralph Rucci, avian embellishment meant drifts of marabou and grouse; Alexander McQueen, meanwhile, made Björk-ready gowns complete with feathered cowls. There was even a full-fledged Hitchcock moment, as Undercover's Jun Takahashi topped some of his looks with scary headdresses. "I wanted to express fear," said the designer, who after experimenting with a variety of animals decided that "the bird masks looked most frightening." Paging Tippi Hedren...

yeah, I love it too  Especially this hair band from Miu Miu I adore :woot:

real feathers (especially the bird swooping on donna karan) literally make me want to throw up. I'm not sure why. I just think it's gross but I mean I think birds and the whole motif is pretty. just real feathers, blech

That said, I love those prada mules

You really have to be careful with feathers, they can look amazing or just disastrous.

Out of the above, I only like the Emma Cook dress. (Are they feathers even?) :flower:

Trends are indeed recycled. I mean feathers were BIG last fall. If you type "feather/s" or probably "birds" in our search feature you'll see a topic on feathers last Fall.

i love the prada feathery mules...

might hafta look into picking some of those up soon...
