Pom Pom Power

A sad story now, to make all the softs of the world cry... saw this one walking down the street, wearing my wondrous scarf complete with wondrous pom poms, only she had removed them from sight.

I nearly died. They had been the main attraction. :ninja: :P

sounds tragic indeed... :(

another dior... :flower:
love the mermaid colours here....

:woot: Where can I buy those Marni accessories??

I don't think I can live without them!

i'm not sure always and never...i say buy yourself some wool and get to work... :woot: :innocent:

I like pom-poms if they are subtle enough. And in the right colors. I made the mistake of buying a huge spool of puce green/orange pom-poms a few years ago and later realized they they were not ugly in a cute and ironic way. They were just horrible in an bad-trippin' Cheech Marin kind of way. I think they are still in my mother's attic somewhere . . .

Strawberry, I didn't know you did knitwear? :punk: Yeah! I thought I was the only one here!!!

The knitted stiletto

Alwaysandnever- pompoms could not be easier to make .

If you're a little afraid of imperfection, they even sell sets of plastic discs to make pompoms at the fabric/craft shop- Joann fabric, etc.

Or you could you just buy cheapy synthetic ones by the bag .

Thanks, paprikahiccup :woot: :flower:

The inspiration in this thread is enough to send me pom-pomming like a maniac.. :o

Yep, ^^^ You can buy the discs above :flower: , softgrey. But I wouldn't even waste the $$, when a piece of cardboard or a friends' fingers, does the job just as well.

The fluffiness of the pompom will depend on how thick you wrap(the disc or fingers) and the loft of the yarn you are using. Pinch the ends of a piece of the yarn you are considering and stretch it. How much it spings back together determines its resilience. This way you can wrap and wrap and wrap- after you tie and cut, :magic: you will have a huge fluff-ball. Most wools , acrylics or blends will work. Avoid cottons, unless you want dense pompoms.

How to Make a Pom-Pom

To make a pom-pom, cut two circles of cardboard, the diameter depends on the size of the pom-pom to be made, and should be equal to the size of the finished pom-pom plus approximately 1/2" for trimming, plus the diameter of the centre hole. eg: For a pom-pom 11/2" across, the circles would be 11/2" plus 1/2" plus 1/2" for centre hole, equals 21/2". Cut a round hole in the centre; the size of the hole is approximately a quarter of the finished pom-pom. Wind the wool round and round the cardboard until the centre hole is completely filled up.

Place the point of the pair of scissors between the two pieces of cardboard and cut around, keeping scissors between two circles of cardboard all the time. Using a double strand of wool, wrap round between the two circles of cardboard, knot firmly, and take away cardboard - see diagram. Trim pom-pom
