Was juz wandering - are there any new promising designers on the Belgium fashion scene that threaten to conquer the world just as their six predecessors did?
There is a plephora of talent, but we have threads on them individually, I'm not sure if this thread will take off... although I guess it's not a bad idea.
Not a bad idea, really. Especially as they've been just as strong as the first.
Second generation to the latest:
Anna Heylen
Wim Neels
Jurgi Persoons
Lieve Van Gorp
A.F. Vandevorst
Véronique Branquinho
Raf Simons
Bernhard Willhelm
Stephan Schneider
Dirk Schönberger
Christophe Broich
Anke Loh
Angelo Figus
Bruno Pieters
Tim Van Steenbergen
Carolin Lerch(new line called Pelican Avenue)
Marjolijn Van Den Heuvel
Kris Van Assche
Libertin Louison
Christian Wijnants
One thing about the newer designers is that there more foreign identities(though Belgian in spirit)that are sprawled in that city now.
Well,he is still part of the generation,Space. And if I'm not mistaken he hasn't totally cut ties with Antwerpen...still quite involved with the fashion scene there and is still highly regarded as a "Belgian" designer.
scott, your list is a mix and match of old and new..
i think that
Carolin Lerch(new line called Pelican Avenue)
Marjolijn Van Den Heuvel
Kris Van Assche
Libertin Louison
are new ...but see i'm interested in the REAL young belgian designers ..please, someone
Young designers? The only two I can fathom at the moment are Lela Scherrer...who's from Switzerland and was trained at Walter,Wim Neels and currently at Dries Van Noten...and Abelone Wilhelmsen who is from Denmark originally. I don't have any info on her except I saw some bits from one of her collections and she reminds me alot of Wim Neels.
I randomly came across this super old thread and it got me thinking whether the fact that I'm so bored with fashion right now is due to the lack of new Belgian talents popping up lately I feel like Cédric Charlier is the only fairly new Belgian designer who's creating some buzz (he went to the school of Visual Arts of Brussels, though). A.F. Vandevorst and Haider Ackermann are still on the rise, as well. Who else? ink: Any new Antwerp-trained talents that are worth keeping an eye on?
