I never thought I'd see the day where Star Wars would become a trend - and yet here it is, right in front of me. I don't think I like this very much, which is very disappointing, because I feel like I can always count on Preen to deliver.
It's not so much about the prints, which are amazing as always, it's just the silhouette. Those droopy, loose midis just aren't doing it for me.
There's some really strong looks here and lots of lovely coats...but the Darth Vader print is so obnoxious! Still, as always with Preen, there's more to like than dislike, which is a plus nowadays.
I've always liked their designs but this time it's too excessive and incohesive, with the kitschy prints and the metallic pieces. The fur and lace are totally out of place and the red orange set feels like it's from a different collection.
admittedly there's almost a Jedi-like feel to the cuts of some of the looks, the coats in particular, but imo for the rest of the pieces unless the objective is to resemble a traffic cone that ghastly shade of orange is just unflattering for anyone. i do like the subtle, spacey patterns in some of the dresses, less in your face than Darth Vader.
Not keen on the literal Star Wars allusions - though if it has to be there, at least it's the "dark side" lol. I also don't love the shocking orange or the shine.
That said, there are, as usual, things to love here. I love that black pantsuit with the rings on the arms, or the white lace pieces, with accents. Some of the prints are really stellar (ahem, not the interstellar ones) too.
So it's a bit uneven for me, but I can still find plenty to admire.
i was thinking that myself agrenate d….you do see more less blatant elements being drawn from the film as a whole even though those vader prints can be deemed a bit too gimmicky. regardless, there's the use of lame, the smock-shapes,jumpsuits,princess leia dresses(a la balenciaga 99) and those long cassock coats reminiscent of obi wan kenobi. listen i grew up on the original star wars trilogy and i can understand the affinity with it….and i do think they executed those elements a lot more cohesively and interestingly….so i don't think it's anything like what rodarte did. with rodarte it was just a bunch of random ideas mindlessly,self-indulgently and amateurishly thrown together. these two actually know what they're doing.
the only thing i can't really make sense of is the over-abundance of fur….
