Project Runway Season 3

Orchide - thanks for the BPR post from Keith! all this drama (self-created, somewhat, haha) i can't stand it. we'll just have to wait and see. :)

wow 25 people on this thread at once! lol A little disappointing to hear that Daniel's all puffed up now... he was my favorite. Cute pics Big-O, thanks for sharing

They have the whole Keith/copy scandal up on gawker already. Poor Keith if his response is ture. The media rarely cares about the truth. They just want a juciy story.

I was always unsure whether Keith would be booted for his copies since there is little copyright protection in fashion but does Keith's statement make sense? Um. That would be a big fat NO. If he has 4 other portfolios that was not "research assignments" as he is implying, why even bring the 5th book? Also, why even bother to photoshop when photos with designers clearly marked would do just as well? Can we say HINKY?

I get the feeling that Keith is doing the bait-and-switch, just like he did with the judges with the Carol Burnett explanation in Episode 1. Since I am not Nina Garcia, I am not falling for it.

As I said before, the truth is out there. I'm just gonna wait and see.

surrounding the Keith scandal: perhaps, this is why Tim Gunn said, "..you have to leave"? :innocent:

the copied versions spreading like wildfire here in NYC. can imagine on the internet

on the internet its everywhere. ontd, televisionwithoupity, bestweekever blog, defamer.

i dont get the hype around him anyway, his dress was soooooooo boring. and it wasnt original at all.

robert's was amazing, he should have won.

Wow. 62 people and counting. (55 are guests).

I don't like Keith. His dress was really boring, and I thought either Robert and Malan should have won. I wish they'd talk a little about the contestants that did 'just okay' instead of concentrating on the winners and the losers.

Wow is right! It could be because thefashionspot got a shout out

'Project Runway 3' Contestant May Have Cheated His Way Into Heidi Klum's Heart

Promos for upcoming episodes of Project Runway hint at a controversy to come, in which Tim Gunn alludes to a crime of fashion so unforgivable that it leads to the unprecedented expulsion of a contestant from the series. It's precisely the kind of mystery best suited for the communal detective work of the internets: A tip on Television Without Pity accusing last week's challenge winner Keith Michael of having stolen several designs in his audition portfolio led commenters of bulletin board the Fashion Spot to do some digging.

Amazingly, what emerged was that the thieving designer was also a lazy one: Michael's sketches are almost exact copies of the original runway photos lifted off fashion sites such as Style.com and Elle.com.

Even more unbelievably, a commenter points out that in the case of the Giambattista Valli ripoff (pictured right), Runway judge Nina Garcia appears to be sitting in the front row. It's not clear when we'll find out if fashion-savvy netizens have fingered the correct culprit, but feel free to e-mail theories and suitable punishment suggestions to BravoTV.com. (We heartily endorse four weeks of forced footrubs and pedicure duty for Michael Kors.)

Agreed. I don't buy his excuse. Why bring other people's work when the show specifically asks you to bring samples of YOUR OWN work? This basically undermines the premise of the show, to find America's next great designer. As Counterfeit Chic noted: " A designer's credibility and status are based on his/her production of original, creative work." Also, Counterfeit Chic mentions a potential legal issue with Keith's copies of the runway photographs which are protected by copyright.

I'd like to see how this turns out as something is definitely amiss. Either Keith has more explaining to do or Bravo does.

I don't know. It doesn't make much sense that this would be the reason a designer gets asked to leave. Someone would have had to go back and review the designers' portfolios and then realize that Keith's had been copied. And if he wanted to copy designs why would he have used such ones from such recent shows, especially one from a show that Nina attended (she prob. was at the Lacoste and Marni shows as well). I know Nina sees a lot of shows during fashion week but between her, Michael Kors, and Tim Gunn, it seems unlikely that not one of them recognized any of the 3 designs Keith supposedly copied. Keith seems like a strong designer, or strong tailor at least, but we'll see how this plays out!

i guess we'll see. oh well. there's always robert and bradley to root for. ;) this season is so thrilling! such drama!

I agree kikidior... one can always root for robert!

But just touching on the Keith dilemma... really I am not as shocked at him for the sketches as i am that it got by BRAVO along with the PR crew. Now that's shocking, the fact that if he did copy sketches, they weren't caught by fashion heavy hitters... specially nina garcia who works for ELLE!

:D i agree about bravo, and nina of all people. now if anna wintour judged that, i can imagine her fur around keith's neck. i was thinking about the show last night and i just really responded to those three. of course we have to wait as it's early in the competition. keith's hot (i think i like him physically-and his attitude- more than his work:blink: ) robert's evidently promising. also, bradley seems like a nice guy and i'm probably the only one who liked his quilted dress. i have to watch more to form a more solid opinion.

Let's just say Project Runway did overlook the individual projects and it was until later that it was informed of the similarities by a 3rd party. Nina does go to alot of the shows during Fashion Week but with lots of lines she sees it is excusable to overlook a clothe here and a clothe there months after. :innocent:
